I got to say I was impressed with the quality of the wood kit material wise, just mistakes in the making.

The law of averages will ultimately get you a part that is just as wonky as your car is and therefore it will fit perfectly.

Most times, if something I buy fits, I have installed it incorrectly.

That being said, that top wood looks pretty bad-I'd send it back with the photos and see what they can do.

I dont believe we are just talking about repro stuff, there are other items out there with adapter kits and hop up parts etc.

The good info on sme threads just takes a little longer to come out.

Russ, I think most of us have the same problam. We buy parts that should fit, then spend a lot of time making them fit!

Kind of like what you are going to have to with your wood.

Though, come to think of it, I did buy a timing cover that fit one time....

Completely disagree - I got a trunk lid and the curvature was MILES different to my orig body. For trunk lids my advice (now!) is to buy the inner skin and then roll your own outer skin.

If everything fit perfect you wouldn't need a mechanic to put it in. If that wasn't true most of us would be out of work. Oh, wait it's 2009, I forgot, most of us are out of work. Be glad you have work, and can figure out how to put it in.

Very true. I did new car prep at a Ford dealership in 1974, (I am sure GM was as bad) I thought they were kidding me the first time the guy next to me brought out the "door adjuster" which was a 4 foot 2X4, half of which was wrapped in towels and tape. Yes, that was how this dealership at least adjusted doors on brand new cars. If it was way out, we did go in and loosen the hinge bolts first, otherwise, just the prybar. The fit and finish back then was sadly lacking. I spent an inordinate amout of time on wind noises and water leaks as the new guy, until a newer new guy came along. Since it was the beginning of heavy emmission controls, some cars had to be unloaded from the carriers by gravity until we got to them, they stalled so badly. Certain line factories did worse than others, and I learned about Friday production cars and day before/after a holiday cars. When we had a new car that had more than its share of problems, we checked the production date against our wall calendar.

Guys I am pleased to report that my wood kit Supplier gave me a full refund and let me keep the kit.
I ended up spending a lot of time with some hired help and have got it to fit to my satisfaction but it did turn into a time consuming exercised that I did not need.

Next project is to get my ****** adapter kit to fit.
I can see why folks just build these kit at home from scratch.
So far no time saved by purchasing one in.

I'd guess they didn't check their jigs against a standard often enough, resulting in a mistrimmed part. That's a darn shame, but good on them for doing you right.

That just goes to show that sometimes the "labor" is harder to control than the materials:D.

I posted on here a while back about some parts on my 56 Chevy that was "incorrect".I got some **** from some--maybe I deserved it,maybe not.
I try to build or modify stuff as much as I can--time permiting. And I really don't mind if repro stuff is off--a little. But with things like bolts--nuts--certain fastners--and certain parts that have "incorrect" holes,etc--I feel there's no reason for that--it's either laziness or not caring about your product. When I fab something for somebody,it's right,or I do it again--maybe not a good profit-making deal, but at least I can look at people and not hang my head. But maybe I'm just weird--------

Buddy you are not weird, just a dying breed.
Folks today just not seem to care too much about quality any more, which really helps the Chinese get their products in the door here.
