as far as insurance goes (and i donno if anyone has mentioned this yet cuz i diddnt read the entire list of reply) find an insurance place that will sponsor the insurance for the day. you will prob. have to put a business card in everyones car or something...but lemme tell ya....its worth it to have your insurance sponsored and not have to pay for it.

Thats a great idea Rocket'. I have talked to K&K Insurance and insurance is about $4,000 IF.........
My Father (RIP) told me one time having 500 friends with 10.00 is better than one friend with $5,000. I changed the amounts due too inflation :D

I would roll my 33 out for this event. Would love to race her again.

    Good luck with this "project".

See you in April at the ANRA opener!

  10. WOW, just WOW! Do It! I'm in North Carolina and I'd drive out there to be a part of this. It looks like a perfect venue. Please keep this alive and make it happen.

I'm listening Desert', I think a meet and greet Friday night would be better, I've noticed at the races people get tired after a full day and leave early. What do you think is fair to charge swappers? Input appreciated, Thanx guys, Rocky

i was thinking more about this last night, about the year cut off you set.... (and im sure quite people will agree that...) i hope its not going to be crowded with nothing but tri 5 chevy guys racing ALLL DAY LONG. not that i have any problems with them, its just something you may want to think about.

Rocket', I think I understand what your saying. If you have an event open to '72 you'd be watching Camaros all day, just my thought but I'm open to suggestion, I want this to be a group effort. We built our HAMB car specifically to race @ DragFest (I had plans anyway, it was the last straw) as my '72 Comet didn't fit the period they were shooting for.I need and appreciate the input, MORE PLEASE :D Rocky

Back when, they'd cap each class at 16 cars for 4 rounds (or 32 for 5 rounds) of eliminations and put on a hell of a show. If fewer showed it was no problem, the show went on. When more showed, the fight was on early.
The ads making the procedure clear heightened spectator interest because they knew qualifying would be just as hard fought as eliminations and they were actually getting two sets of races for their money.
There was mucho drama prior to the show in just "making the field", sometimes with only one "do or die" shot at it, and it resulted in very close racing in the show itself.

The whole "guaranteed run" thing for the pro boys solely to guarantee them a cut of the gate was antithetic to that and was what really screwed the pooch by cutting out the local and non money backed racers that are the basis of the sport in the first place.

If we're to rekindle the era and the feel perhaps we should take a long hard look at the formulae that worked then and grew the sport in the first place. I believe the key to successful nostalgia racing will prove to lie in devising a formula to keep the whole thing below the threshold of the "travelling road show" interests. That means keeping it locality based for the most part and open & competitive all the way.

OK, that's my two cents (minus sales, use, blue & green taxes and copper recycle fees of course).

I may be shooting myself in the foot but I really want to do a '65 and earlier show. Some basic heads up classes running for trophys only. Depending on car count there will be an open lane for grudge once your eliminated. I would like to have a match race between a Competition Coupe and an A/Modified Roadster, I'm thinking of one that really likes to put on a show. The match race would be wild if we staged them with a bar of soap rubbed on the tires while rolling in. Basically the burnout would be part of the run. The event needs to be affordable for all attending and have a Meet and Greet in the Hanger on Friday night, everybody gets in FREE! There is a lot of History here in the Valley with Midgets, Hardtops, Motorcycles etc., invite them to be involved in the car show. These are all ideas "wizzing" around in my head, and just ideas until I get the folks @ Eagle Field onboard. I'm confident that we could make some money for the Museum and have a great time doing it. We will see! Rocky

I don't think you're shooting yourself in the foot at all, I think you have some great ideas.

I particularly like the "trophy only" part too.

Don't even need the trophys, just being able to run like that is reward enough!

    Non-contact cement asphalt and a flagman.......it sounds perfect.:D

That's the attitude that will make this possible!!

Is there a possibility of overnight RV parking?
That's another way of helping out with the cash flow.
