For those who are in the San Fernando Valley here's the scoop:

There are two new car cruise meets on Friday nights on the west end of the valley. They are about 5 minutes from each other. I went and checked them both out last night, so thought I'd give you a heads up:

    1. As you know, FLAMES no longer is so a new meet was launched at STARS DINER which is on the North side of SHERMAN WAY just EAST of DE SOTO.

My review is as follows: Cool Diner, nice size parking lot. Meet was slow, but I think it will pick up as more people hear about it and start showing up.

    2. Second meet is on the corner of SATICOY and WOODLAKE in West Hills (Woodland Hills adjacent) - that is basically 5 minutes away from the first meet, so you could hit them both in one night. HUGE parking lot, BBQ
sandwhiches and food, plus one Italian restaurant with great prices. Meet was started last week by a mechanic who has an old 50's shop there.
There was a talk about having either live bands or (better yet) having the swing kids there spinning some cool jive and dancing. :D If that happens that would be real awesome! Cause that has always been a dream of mine: To be able to drive my rod to a car meet and swing dance all in one spot. Plus it would also be very fun to watch for the car owners, so I think it would help bring more cars in and keep that cruise night spot going.

Anyways, I just thought I'd pass the info to others who may be looking for new places to cruise to on Friday nights.

Michelle, my night ended up on an exciting note: floored the deuce on Victory at 1AM and throttle got STUCK AGAIN. Unfixable. So there I was stranded by the side of the deserted road feeling pretty unsafe. I said F** this and I drove the last 20 blocks home on a stuck full throttle. It was entertaining. Had to keep shutting engine down every half block or so cause I was picking up crazy speed in less than 8 seconds. Driving 60 mph in a 30 mph zone and laying rubber on and off each time I shifted into gear. got lucky no cops saw me or they would have thought I was smash drunk. Made it home barely, tried to push the deuce up the drive way into garage, was too heavy. In the end I had to do one last firing up of the engine revving up in the red more or less and shift into gear with only 2 cars length between me and the garage wall. I've never turned my car engine off so fast! NO, I stopped just in time. So that was the excitement over here this morning at 1:30AM. The entire neighborhood heard me coming in with my tires screaming bloody murder. what a ride!! Oye.

Mike: Might be headin' out to Bob's Friday, but next time I hit the new meet I'll call you and yes let's roll in together! In fact it would be great to gather a group of us to go from meet to meet together and really CRUISE. :) I'm up for it if anyone else here is, post.

hey bigds, I see you are in the middle east right now? Not too many hotrods over there... Although when I lived in Beirut, they did have street racing / illegal drag races, mostly muscle cars from the seventies (well it WAS the seventies back then!). I remember peeling rubber at eth wheel of a Transam back in those days. I started driving when I was 11 (no I'm not kidding). there weren't a single stop sign or traffic light in he ENTIRE country. Nothing but narrow, super windy mountain roads... And we all drove like NUTTS back then. Where you stationned at?

I remember riding military jeeps on dusty rocky roads in South Lebanon, in hostile territory. Sure gets your adrenalin pumping :)...

But back to cruise meets, I am sure motorcycles are welcome, heck there was a vintage double deck red bus from UK there last friday! It was mint on the inside too, we got to go up and check out the inside :)

Put the word out, it's d a pity for these cruise meet to die out for lack of attendence, just cause people don't know about them. :(

Good news! I heard back from some of my swing dancing buddies (we like to call them the swing kids) and sounds like they might be into it... I'll know more over the next 10 days! Sure would be awesome to make this happen.

    Are you still going?

One important thing to note about cruise meets in the SFV West end: They wrap early. So by 8PM there are a lot less cars and by 9 it is all over usually... Unlike Bob which is always hopping. Which is why I will always favor Bob's despite the long drive late at night coming back home.

So I will be at Bob's this Friday but maybe I'll come back to the STAR and (??? Not sure what the second meet is called yet) the Woodlake car meet maybe the following week. :)

    See you guys there!

Update on the newest cruise night:

It is called the WEST HILLS CRUISE NIGHT (I asked the owner of the shop, who started the cruise meet and that's what he said). I went there last friday and showed up early this time and found the parking lot was HOPPING !! Lots of cars, some roadsters a nice selection of cars, ranging from early roadsters to street rods to muscle cars to cobras and the batmobile was there too! :)I recognized many cars from Simi valley.

FOOD: There was a wonderful scent of fresh BBQ and I checked out what they serve. I was surprised to find out you can get a huge New York steak, from the BBQ, with cole slaw and beans for $10 . YOu bet the line was long :p but not too long. I tried the Little Italien place on the corner of that shoping strip and found the Chicken Picatta and Chicken marsalla (we sampled both) to be quite good for $10.99 - in short, no way you are going to starve if you come to this cruise meet LOL.

BATHROOMS: there are bathrooms available there at the mechanic's shop and a pizza place.

PARKING: This is a HUGE lot so despite the large number of cars I had no problem finding a spot.

SWING DANCING: Still working on that. Starting to get some bites form local swing dancing community, so we'll see !!

Reporting from the front, Your truly and don't forget:

CRUISE UNTIL THE WHEELS COME OFF! :D

Went back to the WEST HILLS cruise night last friday and it was HUGE! This meet is growing like weeds, we had a hard time parking ...

e met at Bob's at 3:30PM and about 5 cars and I cruised down side streets to STARS meet and then immediately to the West Hills meet. It was fun. we need to organize a route like that on a regular basis :)

Definitely the place to be on a friday nigth West side of Bob's Big boy :D
