On my 46 Coupe the back fenders are welded onto the body, and I only used it on the front fenders. The car is gloss black with black welting.

I think it fits tight if you take the time to do it right. You can get the real thin bead for good fitting fenders, larger bead for fenders that have a more uneven gap. It's not a 'look' issue with me, since that's the way the car came.

It's not a 'love' 'hate' issue, more of a happenstance.

I digress from the alternative, of not using it, leaving a gap, or worse yet, filling the gap with bondo, simply because anybody that knows old cars can tell by looking that the gap has been filled and you'll get just as many people disliiking that, or liking it, so personal preference prevails. As always.

As far as sitting around the shop talking negative about a customer's choices, that's kind of bad for business, somebody might overhear. If I was the boss, I would discourage my employees from that kind of diss.

I was always under the impression that it helped stop squeeks and rattles. To me it ads a detail element to the car. A lot of cars used it from the factory. I'm not saying abuse it (fitment issues), but when done right i like it. my .02

i always had it made by my interior guy to match the paint on street rods , it kinda blends in that way and doesnt take away from the paint. maybe not traditional but it works well

For the cars that came with it, I like the look. Very "traditional" I might say. On my, I have full rear fenders('32 style) and I don't think it would look right without it. And like everyone else, it's just my opinion. On your car, your opinion is what counts.

  9. I've got it on my 29 because I like it. Kinda finishes it off, but if you don't like it don't use it. Many years ago guys used to pull it out & paint it contrasting colors, I don't like that. Either way the car companys used it to help stop metal to metal contact and to seal or bridge the gap. I'm gonna keep mine,,,, I think,,, Jesus you guys have me second guessing things I thought I was sure of!!!!

Tommy...I see I'm gonna have to get to Calisle real early to beat you to the chrome welting. :)
Next we'll be fighting over a gallon of peach colored paint.
