I did a search on using Ospho on headers, and found that it can be used, but most everyone seems to paint them afterwards. I am thinking about just ospho only? Am I nuts or can this or has this been done? Chris
Wow, 41 looks and no reply, guess i,m on my own on this one. Just never liked painted headers, and dont have the dough for coated. My rams horn manifolds work great with graphite though
I painted some with VHT header paint. They have held up great. There was one small spot I missed with the paint, so I rubbed some Ospho on that spot. It has been several years and everything is fine.
I dont know what kind of car you have. I have a RPU so headers are right out in open.I just spray them with WD40 when I put the car to bed at night.Been doing it for two years and they still look great. This of course would only be practical to do on a roadster or I should say an open wheel car. Gregg
I tried ospho-ing my headers once. Actually one side as a test. They had gotten surface rusty like typical sheetmetal megaphone collectors do. They looked great until they got wet at night. Then there were these crazy white streaks on them. While they didn't look good, it seemed like they were more protected with the ospho. TP
Thanks for the replies guys. This is for my 63 chevy truck. I bought it up in Winder Georgia about two months ago. No pics worth posting yet. Got it running, and it ran like ****. So I pulled out the engine and put in my new engine that I built for my 57. So the headers won't be seen at all, so I guess i'll try it and see how it works. ( Needed the engine out of the 57 to detail before final install and paint, and I wanted to build something for it more period correct.)
