I was hopin someone on here had front and rear pics of a chopped 53 Chevy that was painted medium violet .The car had a 53 DeSoto grill and bumper and a 50 Merc back window! It was fucking awesome! It was low as hell and had 1 bar flipper hubcaps and was featured in either Custom Rodder or Rod and custom. The car also ran a set of 49-51 Merc style bubble skirts and lakes pipes with a 4" shroud around them in the front.I think it was from the midwest or somewhere?Id love to show a friend a rear shot of the car and the front would be great too.

Are you sure it wasn't a 1956 Chevy?I remember one on the cover of Custom Cars(little book)many years ago.Think it had 56 Packard taillights.

I dig this chevy, but the bubble skirts look wrong.
I think this car would look great with some flake on the roof!!!

Is that a bullet hole sticker on the hood (driver-side/nose)????

I think I know what you mean!!!!!! But by being modern you mean the style, or because it was built recent?

I know, its hard to for sarcasm to come across with the written word.;)
From now on just assume nothing I write or say is serious.

I like JimA...last year I bought a nice rear bumper for my 49 from him.

Personally I don't care for it at all, but here's a scan that shows the rear. From R&C & says it's a -54 btw...

I don't beat up cars on message boards- definitely not intentionally. I try to keep it only positive- to the point of being called boring by a couple friends because I don't like to stir it up (anymore ;) ).
I do like the HAMB and have always tried to be a positive addition. Kustoms are a passion- I only wish to see more of them everyday! Thanks, Jim

The reason for looking at this particular car was to see how the 50 Merc rear window fits with the rest of the car.

Anthony, thanks bro. The fact that you remember the details of this car, and for that matter, every car, still blows me away.

I'll show it to Jo tonight so he can see what you are talking about.

Yeah ,you have to be on fuckin dust to think that bubble skirts that are designed for a 49 -51 Merc could be remotely appropriate on any 49 -54 Chevy. They totally fight the contour of the 1/4 whether ya love bubble skirts or hate em.

I not beating up on this car now ...but I am going to say, I am of the opinion
that window looks like ass on this car.
Also from the side now I see how those skirts could have worked but the front edge is too straight against the round quarters. I like how they round out the whole fender at the bottom, a bit more rake in the stance it would be perfect.

    I still dig it.

Yeah the skirts don't really work for me either. It's too over the top for my taste and now the skirts appear to be the lowest point on the rear of the car, which makes me think that doesn't bode well for the lifespan of that painted fiberglass(or maybe its metal?)

I never realized how difficult that rear window was to deal with on a '53. I'm not in love with my friend's flipped shoebox rear, but on this car, from this angle, that rear window appears higher in the roof than the side windows. maybe just an optical illusion?

dummy spots, moulded lakes pipes, bubble skirts and fuzzy dice. all they need is "lost in the 50's" painted on the quarter panel then it will have all the standard crap on it.

customs are supposed to be smooth, not loaded with junk. looks nicely built though.
