The lake pipes will give two 90 bends that will tone down the sound some. But you will still have the sound you wont.

You can always compose it in MS word, do a spell check and then paste it in the HAMB or just fuk it!

Around here, if the cop is nice, he will only give you a ticket for defective mufflers (fix-it). If he's not so nice, he will cite you for modified exhaust which is a fine. Good luck.

What I have done is build the baffles so they slide in snug on all three cones. And then drill one small hole on the bottom of the pipe and through the baffle. And with a small 3/16th bolt and a small crush nut you can take them out when the urge strikes you. We did this after a show on larimer street last year. And cruised colfax on the way home every other block we were setting off car alarms from the noise. But this is with a hemi, And we were lucky we did not have to answer to the popo as you say. After thought it was kinda stupid on are part. but it was fun anyway...ghost

I've driven around with open pipes a little, and the popo didn't like it much. I have never been ticketed for it, but it has been brought up. Drove the J to school the last day of high school with open pipes and it was settin off car alarms. I generally run car chemistry 3 chambered baffles. I really push my luck when I don't have the center cap plugin the baffle.

My guess is you will get away with it for a little while, but once you've been warned a couple times, you will just piss em off if you don't do something about it, and then you will have trouble.

I know how you feel, when I uncork my car, you can't beat the grin of my face with a stick.

Since your "gramer" is so wretched I assume "popo" is slang for the local law enforcement agency? At first glance I thought you had switched gears and were referring to a bodily function. Yuck.

alot of it will probably depend on your attitude when you get pulled over.and how you are dressed.Than how rural an area you live in..second thing is going to be, how young you are.
you may get a few fix it tickets or a warning or 2 ..than the fun is over..
I look at it this way,,why push your luck or bring un-necessary attention to yourself..as it is these types of cars are not seen every day so you are already on display

Hey dude, whey don 't you put some cable actuated cutout's.......when ya want to race, pop em' open......then shut em' when your cruzin'.......why draw undue attention? The money you'll pay on tickets can be used for buying some cool car parts............

I built mine on my sedan. First they were open and really really really loud, then made some baffles so we could take it to billetproof and not get rattled to much. Apparently they didn't bafflle enough and after 200 miles my ears rang all weekend. It sounds cool up till about 40 miles an hour then it gets bad. Now I have the down pipe and they run out the back thru glasspacks and it sound great. If I want it loud I can un cap it and run it with or with out the baffle. I never thought I could have exhaust to loud. But this cured that. Joe

I've been driving mine for a year with open headers and a 12.3:1 compression race engine. I've been pulled over twice (both times for showing off a little) and neither cop said anything about the exhaust. I've been at a traffic light with a state trooper right next to me and he didn't even look over. As long as you're not being an idiot (like I was) and pulling holeshots at the lights you should be okay. Don't give them any more reason to pull you over. You're already a suspect when you drive a highly modified car.

that ringing is caused by the damage you just did to your hearing. It becomes permanent and is called tinnitus, and you *don't* want it. THE RINGING WILL NEVER GO AWAY. Not when you sleep. Not when you watch TV. Never. Hearing damage is cumulative, and by the time you realize what you've done it's too late.

Ask anybody on here over 30. We *all* wish we'd been smart and protected our hearing. That ringing sound will drive a guy nuts.

Put some mufflers on, but since I know you're probably not, do yourself a favor and wear some earplugs when you drive. Nobody will even notice them and you'll look hardcore! :D

No doubt, sometimes i can't concentrate on anything because of that damn ringing! I had a dream last night they pulled a big rock of wax out of my head and solved the problem. It bothers me in my dreams even!

But, loud pipes save lives! Or so I have read on bumper stickers?

I have a 550 hp 427 with zoomies on it, LOUD! but its not any louder than two of the local police Harley's on patrol. It really depends on the cop and town you are in at the time. There are actually some pretty cool cops around my town that are into rat rors, mussle cars and harley's. People will alway bitch about stuff that scares them!!!

In my young and stupid era, (I am now old and stupid) I ran open drag pipes on my Pan, in and around Chicago and I would sometimes get caught at an intersection on a red, with a squad nearby, and even next to me occasionally. Open pipes in the "canyon" between continuous rows of buildings are frowned upon by some. I learned from a buddy to kill the engine, and then make a show of trying to start it, it was a kick only. When the light changed and the squad left it was time to light it and go. Whenever I got pulled over, I always shut it down immediately, and mysteriously it would never restart in the presence of a uniform.

Another friend who ran open headers on his Plymouth used a hidden ign cut switch he had for theft reasons, whenever he got pulled over. When it was time for "lemme hear them pipes BOY", he was always struck with an engine that cranked, but never fired. He even had a cop try to start it once.

We did pick up some plugs on the way home and it made a big difference. I kind of figured I would get some flack on the pipes being to loud by the cops but at an idle next to a cop at a light it isn't nearly as loud as some of the bikes in the area. Jimmy whats the scoop on the motor you now running
