bolting chrome air cleaners to the hood? yay or nay?

Saw a 40s chevy today , looked like a neat ole sled, camera batteries were dead so sorry for a no pics post....anyway, it had 3 chrome air cleaners bolted to the hood on the p***engers side... I asked him about the powertrain, he said it was a stocker with some custom touches thrown in. He showed me under the hood and I said, HMMM I wondered how you got those aircleaners to stick up so high, we both laughed. He said he gets asked alot about if it has 3 carbs, he just grins and says maybe...
So what do you guys think? Is it acceptable, or not, was thinking of doing the same thing to the 47.
