Projects 1950 chevy styline brake shoes

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Cherokee Coachworks, Mar 28, 2009.

  1. does anyone know a good place to get these, looks like i'll have to pay 70 dollars or more for each wheel, but oh well. Mine are gummy and soft so they don't really release. I have not nor would take this thing out on the open road until they're fixed, but I live in the country so I drive it up my street a little. I rebuilt the master cylinder already, seems to work great, and I got the rear rebuild kits from advance auto parts, but I need some shoes and the front wheel cylinders badly!!!

also has anyone relined their own shoes? I'm sure someone here has. How hard is it and where can I get the linings at?

  3. YOU ARE A GOD!!!! Thank you so very much!!! I was totally depressed having to pay $300 plus for the shoes, If I did that twice I could have had the disc convertion kit. Incidentally I want to keep this 50k mile car as stock as I can, so I did not want to do the conversion kit. She'll be roadworthy with those brake shoes, then I can start driving her to work out the kinks in the drivetrain!!! Awesome, I love this site.

Why not convert to the better 51-54 self energizing brake system? Parts are cheaper, they're easier to adjust & they stop the car much better. Grab everything from the backing plate out to convert.

  5. well, that's an option, but at the moment the car is pretty much original and i'd like to leave it that way. I def. plan on selling this car, in fact it is in the cl***ifieds now. check my next post for a resto-mod i'm doing on my 1959.

  6. I'll second this recomendation. It is some of the best money you will spend. When I did mine I needed the spacers and everything from the backing plates out. Todd
