Sweet build. The chop turned out great. It is going to be a cool truck. I really like the steering setup. Can't wait to see more.

  2. Thanks guys, I really appreciate you positive comments!!!

I got my new grill today.
I decided to go with the original grill, because it will fit the hood better...
The look is maybe also better ;)
    So here it is:

I also started custimizing the crossmember, since the new transmission will never fit in the stock crossmember...
So I just welded angle iron into the frame, and will then cut the rest inbetween out:

Unfortunately I could not remove the cab, because I was alone, so it was a pain in the a$$ welding the angle iron in... Always get in and out the cab ;) maybe I sould not have cut so much out of the roof :D

  4. thanks Paul!!

Finally I got my new engine in today...
After almost killing myself yesterday, when the hoist flipped over, with the engine on it.
    But another day, more luck!!!

So here it is, my truck with the "new" 425 Olds in it:

The truck build looks great, really coming along nicely. Keep us updated.
Where did you get the floor kit shown in the pics on the first page? I'm shopping around for my 37 truck. Thanks.

It looks as the drivers side exhaust manifold is off, was it a victim of the fall?

    Tad

  10. The only victim of the fall was the garage floor!!
Got a hole and some scratches...
Now I believe what they say: you can't kill a big block :D

    About the truck floor:
    I bought here http://www.hotrodssuperstore.com/fordtrucks.html
And I am happy with the floor, but you can also contact this fellow HAMBer: www.vendettaautofab.com
His HAMB name is also vendettaautofab.

Support the Vendors on the HAMB!!!
    Especially in this hard times!!

Looks like everybody owns a 37 ford truck now :D
    (Steve, fletchman and meddler)
    Lets see some build threads!!
    That's why we are here!!!

BTW picked up the rear end of my choice today.
A Ford 9" out of a '71 F100, should be strong enough for the Olds :D

Looks good!! keep up the nice fab work-you would be surprised at how many look at that.
If it looks like a shitty job, the whole thing is probably a shitty mess too.

Good choice on switching the grilles. I like the original one better. Great start and the build looks great. Cant wait to see the finished project.

  14. Thanks guys!!

Today I worked on the motor mounts, so I could get rid of the hoist. It's a pain in the a$$ to weld the brackets, while the engine is still next to you. Guess I learned my lesson today!!

After that, I started to modify my firewall, so the new tranny would fit...
Then I got me some new oil for the 425, because we had to get rid of any fluids for the transport.

The I had a buddy coming over to help me lifting the cab back on the frame!!!
    She looks awesome now:

The motor is now sitting right there, where I wanted it:

Engine to firewall clearance is also better now:D
    [IMG]

Couldn't wait to install my stifter:

Now it's time for the floor ;)

Would also be cool, to fire it up soon :D

Wow - looks to be coming together very nicely.

  16. Well guys, here is my latest and last Update:

Picked my powdercoated rims up and had my WWW Firestone mounted.

Fortunately they had Chevy Orange at the powder coater.
My choice for Wheels and Engine.
So please imagine these tires (500 / 525 16 and 700 16 in the back) and a semi gloss black paint job.

Here is a better job of the front end:

    and here the coated brakes:

So what do you guys think???

    It is looking good.

    What brakes are those?

When you going to come work on mine?

  18. :D jimmy, we can do that!! for a small fee, of course :D:D

Well Dave, I could not get weight on the axle so far.
Wanted to mount my tires yesterday, but the powder coater did not cover my King Pin holes on the axle...
So I'll have to ream it again. that sucks, but I got plenty of time, when I am back :D

I'm happy, you like the orange. I figured it is something different than all these black/red combos.

Oh, and I found the U-Bolts!!! They were still in my trunk ;)

This looks awsome! But did you elevate the floor level or is it supposed to be that high?
    Anyway thats a nice chop

Great looking build, thanks for posting it.

On your question about lead as a filler..... the stuff lasts forever and is very durable. You obviously can't sand it (health reasons), but it files well. The original lead in the seams of my '33 chevy coupe is in perfect shape, and the car body sat outside in a field for 40+ years.

  22. Well, I have the whole front end jacked up.
So that's not the true floor level. The problem is, I can't really tell how low it will be...
Since I changed the spring, and of course: the engine!!!

I new I would have the same problem myself , because I don't actually have any friends who live within 30 miles. I know I'll need the body off a hundred times before it is bolted down for good, so I threw together a simple lifting frame from a length of 2 x 3 box, with a $50 electric winch:

Hi, really enjoying this thread (I've also got a '36 truck), any updates??

  25. Well guys, the latest update is that I won't be back in the States before June.
I know that sucks, but it's getting more difficult to apply for a VISA for the US due to the crisis.

But now I can do the next planned steps on the truck in my head again and again, and be well prepared when I am back.

Es gibt nur ein bischen Deutsche. (just a little German) They dig hotrods too - check out their Bottroppp show.

  30. Hallo!!
Ja, ich freue mich auch, deutschsprachige Amerikaner zu treffen!!
Have you been to Germany or Austria??
Because normally the German on here is not too good ;)

Alright ererybody, after a 5 month visit back home in Austria, I finally moved to the US yesterday with my family and tons of stuff!!!
I hope, I get to work on the truck soon again, so I can share new pics.
But first off all I have to go through the jungle of bureaucracy!!!
