My coffee buddy, Art, who is building a kustom '51 Merc, will be in the area the first week of April. Any car events happening up that way ? Perhaps some hot rod or kustom shops that he might visit ? He's a quiet, soft-spoken kinda guy so he won't be disturbing anybody or their activities.
I'm not sure how close Plattsburg is to the little hamlet called Bloomingdale, but I'm going up there myself this summer in my `41 Coupe. See as the story goes Bloomingdale has very few straight roads being in the Adirondak mountains and all, except maybe one in particular. The locals called them the "Bloomingdale Flats". See as the story goes my pop (RIP) had a bunch of cars as a kid but his favorite was the black `41 Ford Business Coupe that he had to give up when he joined the Navy. He said it was the fastest and sportiest car he ever had to that point. Apparently it did pretty good on the "Flats". I'm gonna tour around up there (hopefully) this summer and visit the sites of all his growing up stories. Then for sure I'm gonna take a wide open blast accross the Bloomingdale Flats with him in spirit by my side and in his memory......
Not right in Plattsburg, but the Rolling Bones shop is about 2 hours south. I think it would be worth the trip.
Burlington, VT is right over the lake just a ferry ride away and I think there is a few guys on here that live close. Burlington is real cool.
http://www.airborneparkspeedway.com/ Looks like they don't open till May...but I always like to check out even a dormant speedway when I get the chance.
