You could have elaborated to explain that battery cables on many now cars are a part of a very extensive and expensive wiring harness NOT the individual cables we are used to seeing here and that many think are under the hood of their wife's late model driver.

$300 for a pair of cast hinges for the rear seat bottom of a tri5 chevy wagon. This quote came from an obviously starving man in an Eastern Colorado "junkyard" Using the term salvage yard would imply that the place was organized and a person may know at least a partial inventory.

I bought some on eBay for $45

1100. for a pair of hinges.. and they are repro..

AND the seller wouldn't JUST sell me the hinges.. he would only make them available if he were doing a total restoration on my car.. I found out later that his hinges DONT actually FIT.. Hence the reason he needed the entire car..

    and I needed 2

I still dont have a door handle... but thats ok..

  7. When I was building my Coupe engine I came across a bare Hilborn intake at a swap meet in poor shape for a 426 Hemi, the guy heed and hawed, then came up with a price of $10,000.

We all laughed. Out loud. In his face.
    LOL

I bought an N.O.S. 1940 Plymouth trunklid, my buddies all thought it was WAY overpriced, but I thought it was a deal considering what it was, and when I would see one again... close to $1000 U.S. by the time I got it home.

Paid 54 bucks for a trans. repair kit for a 69 3/4 ton w/ auto. Needed one O ring & gasket for where the speedom. hooks in the side.
Couldn't get it at parts stores and the parts guy at Ford dealer said " I've got one that's been opened, I'll go rob it". When he came back the only thing missing out of it were the O ring & gasket.
Could have made the gasket but not the O ring. 54 bucks for 15 cents worth of stuff.

An old fellow at Decatur had one of those modern, chinese made Model A roadster pedal cars. Same ones you can buy in Speedway for $200. Looked like it had some minor damage and scratch from shipping and a missing windshield. Otherwise new.

He wanted $800 for it! He was convinced it was a NOS from way back when. Tried to tell me "they don't make em like that anymore."

There's a problem with late model GM pickup instrument panels. The speedo quits and the rest of the panel acts wonky. To repair it you send it back to GM for 10 days so they can reprogram a new one to match your vehicle then it costs $2300 or so for the new one

425.00 each for 34 ford pickup door latches

  18. flt-blk and i were in a local junk yard and found 2 pairs of f-1 shock mounts-when we went out to pay for them the guy wanted $30.00 ea!! for a whopping total of $120.00  needless to say we left them there

  19. I am embarassed to say that I spent just shy of $700 for a N.O.S. Tailgate for my '60 F-100 (still red oxide, with number stamped on it!)...this was just before I was told that Carpenter had repro's for $400...

The N.O.S. piece is still on my wall, annd come the day I paint my F-100 I will probably buy a repro...I have never seen a N.O.S. piece before or since...still too much for it though...

  20. The question is, why haven't you ordered a dozen or so and started listing them on eBay one set at a time?

I priced an exhaust system for my beater '89 Suburban last week through a chain. Intermediate pipe, muffler and tail pipe installed $495. Converter $500. I paid $500 for the truck in the first place 4 years ago, and I could buy another one any time for that money. I did go to Rock Auto and priced it out and everything including the Y-pipe was about $325 (depending on if you got the universal converter or spent $50 more for the specific one).

$30 is reasonable for F1 shock mounts, I've seen them bring $75 a pair or more on eBay. I wouldn't sell my one set for less than that.

Price up taillight lenses for 57-62 Chrysler and DeSoto sometime. Or 57-58 Plymouth bumper wings. I once bought a '57 Plymouth for $400, sold the front wings for the same $400 and the one good rear for $250 - I cut them off with a sawzall before we even picked up the car. NOS ones bring like $2000.

And don't even ask what an NOS mid-40s Chevy spinner steering wheel is worth, you could buy a damned nice driver with the regular wheel in it for the same money. I sold a shitty one that I tripped over in the junkyard where it had fallen out of a car they'd torn up with a loader, for $425. Twice, after the first guy didn't pay.

I drive a 750iL right now...I don't know what part you had to replace but I have a hard time believing it! The only computer/electronics that expensive control a lot more than just tail lights. But they are pricey cars...I just had my alternator replaced with a rebuilt one and it wasn't that far from 1K. Did you have an E32? My E38 was just above 100K new.

Most expensive older part I've been looking for...I keep trying to find a set of handles for my Pierce and so far $300 ea. is the cheapest I've found *gulp* which is why I don't have any yet! $1,200 could buy me a new basket case to start working on

I was upset at a dual exhaust conversion starting at 600-800 depending on the car. Went on their website later on to find out its 600-800 if you want it mandrel bent, and 275 non-mandrel bent.

  24. You just gotta think in German... I pull those door panels with regular trim tools all the time but perhaps your Aussie versions are different from our US models

Yes, E32, 1992 model. Maroon metalic with a tan interior... Beautifull car.

It was a multi function board. Controled a lot of things, but it was the reason my passenger side tail light was out.

You got yours chipped yet? AMAZING performance improvement!

I was at a Shelby convention, SAAC 16 I think-1991, the flea markets at those things are more like a carnival because it's mostly a side show of crazy people asking outrageous prices for 'Shelby' or other 'rare' performance parts. There was a guy with an original dead battery for a BOSS 429...asking $4500! tnrotter

$375 for the 10" piece of nose trim on my 40 Dodge. My dad had been looking for it for 25 years. Couldn't get to the PayPal quick enough. :)
