Hey all, researching a possible new hobby :) currently into 4x4 rock crawling. Looking for the same garage experience but a different play time experience. Not looking to go fast just be different and unique .. I see many fit into that category.. The rat rod style seems to be a good fit, more/less very similar to how the 4x4 stuff, function first and if it looks good, you get a cookie..

I have a garage full of tools and wanted to set some goals that are doable and start with something that I won't get in over my head to much and is something others have done and can guide me along when needed..

So far I've narrowed it down to the 48-51 Ford Trucks and possible the Chevys of that era.

I like the ~rod look with the open front ends BUT I also like the full front fender look. Chopping the top seems to be doable and enough information available to keep me on track.. There seem to be a several directions to go with it for chassis and or suspension stuff.. Plus having some more experienced folks with similar trucks to provide opinions might help..

Anyway... I'll keep to myself and continue to do some homework... I figure I'm 6 months to 1 year from making a project purchase. Ideally I'll part ways with my 4x4 junk and have some more $$ to spend upfront...

Anyone reading this in the Raleigh, NC area needs a hand I'd be happy to stop over with some beer and BS...
