Here's the first rollout and photo shoot with the body on the finished ch***is. In a few weeks, I'll have the header from SaltflatMatt and we'll get to listen to the banger for the first time!

Those little people are my beer and tool fetchers!

Thanks, we're going to paint it in a few weeks. Just a backyard rustoleum job this year, I'll tear it back down and finish right it next winter.

You don't see many tub style cars around here. That one looks slick...simple and no useless add-ons. Wires look good, too, with blackwalls.

Looking good. Reminds me of a Lindberg model kit I built years ago.

  6. cool car. theres something awesome about tubs. maybe its that you can enjoy rodding with the family and have your head in the wind.

I'd like to see a close up photo of your windshield posts please.

  11. I really hate to display my ignorance, but is that a "factory" tub or did you cut the top off a sedan?---Brian

Brian, she started life as a tudor sedan. I reworked the rear with a hammer and dolly so the thick body line tapers down and flows into the rear. I'm working on some 1x1 tube to form the perimeter of the tub.

That is windshield #4 and is pretty good looking (if I do say so myself). It is made from 2" flat stock and 2"x2" angle iron. I'll get a pic posted up.

Here's a shot of the inside of the windshield frame. This should take flat gl***. I'm planning on one piece for each side, held in place with flat stock, bolted through the front. The frame will be silver and I'll use br*** machine screws.

The cowl is modified as well - giving it a phaeton look. I moved the cowl cross brace down so the gas tank bolts to the top edge, not the bottom as in a tudor. The downside is that I can't read the gas gauge very well - it's sort of hidden behind the Model A dash panel.

Here's a couple of detail shots of the rear. You can make out a line where the original contour was. I took one of my cheapo dollies and ground it to fit, then just hammered it into place - this was super easy to do.

That's the dog's. Seriously. I'm feeling inspired to do something similar.
I've got a '26 Touring on my A ch***is, which is great, but a bit small. I can see myself looking out for a tudor body at some point in the future. Keep us posted on your progress.

Guys - thanks for all the kudos and encouragement. I've had this car for almost 3 years now and lived in Virginia, Arkansas and now North Carolina. I'm going to drive this by June 6, 2009!

This has been pretty well do***ented on the HAMB since 2006. Most milestones have been posted up, you can search under my username.

  30. Cool little car. Ch***is screams GOW to me. Most tub conversions miss the mark but your beltline treatment nailed it.!
