I missed the show taking the kids to Santa Cruz... Did anyone go? Get pics? Can you post if so... I heard it was crazy busy and a great day for all with beautiful cars & weather. Frankie brought his 52 Cadillac for inside show and had the 54 Cadillac outside but didn't bring the camera
I did and yes it was crazy, especially saturday. Sensory overload! Is this something like you were looking for? I bugged Walt for awhile, pretty cool guy. Btw, who won Custom? I missed it. I was hoping your Caddy did.
Funny you should ask.... Was this yours? It's a beautiful day and my dog is begging to go out, will post more in an hour or so.... gotta go before it gets dark
Went Saturday, got there at about 7:30 and the place was packed already, barely found a gr*** spot to park on. You couldn't see it all, didn't even attempt the swap meet. Weather was perfect.
Yea that was the most people I had seen at this show for awhile. I got there aroun 7:20 with my Turbo Buick buddies. Here is another... BTW, I remember your car from posts on here Glen and it still looked the same and seems to have been well kept. Loved it.
One of my favorite experiences at this show was running into the owner of this 31 Roadster. The gentlemans name was Don and he took the time to talk to me in great detail about his car. He built it 25 years ago and it is all real steel. He had a dropped axle in it that was done by one of the guys in Oakland that was doing them at the time. He used to get cores and sell them to him. It's a 4 1/2" drop. I remember reading about it in a thread here not too long ago. He was running a 2300cc Ford (yep,Pinto motor). He has refined it and made many small details over the years. The suspension setup was pretty cool, it utilized torsion bars and he had machined some parts for that that help raise or lower the car. If I remember right he said he could adjust it as much as 4-5". I just realized I only got one exterior pic I got so caught up visiting with him and looking. I am sure someone on here knows him, he is the guy in the red hat right behind it. I told him about the Hot Rod Revolution and hope he shows up. I heart Model A's
some more random shots.... the green vette was an old street machine. Had some late 70's car show decals on it and what looked like old laquer paint
This is about it fr now. It was hard to get pics with so many people especially as it got later in the afternoon. Hope you enjoy them.
thats awesome, i was just flipping thru the old rodding and restyling lil book with that orangish copper coupe as the cover car. nice to see its still around
More pics please..... I was in Livermore but didn't make it over to the show but I saw a lot of nice rides cruising around all day.
I took about 100 pics on Sunday ( some of non hamb friendly). dam batteries in the camera died early in the day i will try to post them up tomorrow
Turbo Thanks for the pictures ,Don in the model A is my neighbor been friends for over 30 years ,his roadster is very nice ,he is very nice and a true hot rodder ,I will psss on your post ,almost forgot the guy in the vette is a old time friend we use to show our cars together 30 years ago with ISCA ,I has a white 49 chev pu it was wrecked in sac drag racing at the Governers Cup Thanks http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gfBMA4ogvnY Chris
As a youngster the green Vette was always "the car" that I remember from the Oakland Show. I saw it at a local SJ show last year and met the owner. Very cool. Here is my fav from the show. I will post more tonight. brian
hey brian good to see you at the show [as always]the guy that owns the vette is my buddy carl ,he bought the car new in 64 ,i remember driving down the el camino in sunnyvale in about 81 and seeing that vette parked in front of the store he worked at in the middle of the week , he 's a very nice guy
that carson topped caddy is amazing! love it. Anyone have more info on it? did it start out as a convertible? more pics would also be cool.
Yeah, I remember seeing that Vette parked out in front of a store on El Camino all the time about 25 or 30 years ago. I stopped to look at it a few times. I always thought it was cool that someone would drive a car with a custom paint job like that to work and leave it out in the sun for everyone to see. Most cars like that never saw the light of day. I was at the show on Saturday as a spectator and I was surprised how packed with people and cars it was. Could be a sign that the economy is starting to pick up a little maybe? Or maybe it was just because the weather was great?
SCORE! We seen them walking around and quite a few that nice that weren't working I think you came up when I was talking to Walt about the Derosa car. Like your car a lot more with the new wheels.
I'll let Derosa answer most of your questions but yea, orig. convert., chopped top and mild debadging. It was perfect. Nothing that didn't belong and nothing removed that shouldn't have been. Perfect balance.
IMHO!!!!! The top 5 Customs on display were amazing. I thought Frankies Caddy should have won Custom of the Year but GG's top 5 were all top notch and mostly HAMB friendly. I had a blast. 2 of my close friends won for the first time so that made my weekend. Oh yea, the Hooter's booth was directly across from me too. AND...always great meeting HAMBers and sharing stories. Thats what it's all about. B
went Saturday... but didn't bring my camera since I go mainly for the swap and car corral. one thing I noticed is there was a lot more cars in the car corral, especially in the trailered project car area than there has been in the past.
Thanks for some posting pics. My dad is wanting to see since he heard there were 4K of cars to be seen. He called me in Santa Cruz to let me know Frankies Caddy was 1 of the 5 and that Johnny's old Merc won though..he was keeping up thru Walt & Frankie by phone The ride to Santa Cruz was filled with GREAT glimpses of cars..sorta made us question our trip but the surf was up! BTW...Love your fave shot Brian Orange and Gold seem to go really well together LOL
