vent knob transplant/repair?

The cable on my 53 chevy's vent knob is broken and i've been going through replacing all the cables. The heater is all taken care of but I don't know what the deal with this knob is. Can i replace the cable or am I kinda **** out of luck? Here are some pictures.

chevs of the 40s has 49-50 and 51-52 but not 53/54. pomona swap is probably way better than new jersey swaps.
