hi guys want to find out if anyone has brought one of those dash covers for a 60 caddy? i cant afford the origional repo, so thinking of buying a cover instead. are they worth it? cheers darren
You mean a molded abs plastic cover? Yeah, I've got one for my 60 and my 57---not in yet, but appear to fit okay and a damn sight better lookin than a split pad!
As far as I know they are only made by one company and the fit does leave a little to be desired. They are short in the instrument cluster area. Overall, they are not bad and it's a cheap alternative to a full redo $$.
I found this place and I thought the $173 would be classier than someone gluing on leopard print fabric. But that much dough will also get me to vegas and back. http://www.dashcaps.com/xcart/home.php?cat=263 alan
Was the dash pad optional in those like in most of the other 59-60 GM cars? If it was you could always just scrape it down to bare metal and paint it and that would probably be the cheapest option of all. If you should get in an accident I don't think an inch of 50 year old foam padding is going to help you much anyways.
Ive put 20 or so of those on, most fit fairly well. Just rember dont use the silicone that they send Ive had bad probs with that. Use 100% silicone and go arround the edges and vent holes only. The reason for this is the heat, these expand and contract so you want the center to be able to move and return. One we put a blob in the center and it looked liked it was melted in that spot.
