I picked this up at a auction a week or so ago for less then $90 dollars. I did have to put some casters on it so I can move it around. Who ever made it spent a lot of time and money to build it. I'm not sure what it was originally made for but it going to make one hell of a engine stand. There is a 40to1 gear box on it and the base plate is 3/4 think steel. I would say it probably weights around 700lbs. Another nice thing is the removable drip pan with a drain. It also pulls out to double the size. I still have to figure out how to mount my Nailhead to it. This one shouldn't flex like most of the others you see made when there is a heavy motor on them. If anyone else has a cool engine stand lets see some pix
Okay, donut and zman both suck! (kicks dog, muttering "$90 for that engine stand...." to himself) I'd LOVE to have a stand like that... ever since I screwed up and flipped a SBC over and forgot to take the lifters out. I felt I was okay up till the third one hit the floor... then I thought "I can still fix this!" as I tried in vain to get the high-centered engine flipped back over. Then two more lifters dropped out, and it was donesville. I'd be happy just to find the 40:1 geared box, and make my own engine stand based on it. -Brad
Check Harbor Freight for a worm-drive manual winch. That would do the job for an engine stand, just cannibalize it for the gear and worm.
LOL, how much do I suck now.... I have two... Yeah right, You can't put a 500lb. engine on their 2000lb. stand without an issue, you're gonna trust that crap to turn a 700-800lb. engine?
Built a ton of diesel engines in 35 years with Navistar. It looks just like one of our repair stands.
Pure junk. I'll give you 20 bucks for the scrap value. Speaking of junk, what's up with the Buick in the background? I thought it would be done by now instead your farting around with engine stands for airplanes...
I wish I had a pic of the stand I scored... got it from an older guy for free, I tried to buy it but he said that if he ever needed it he had my number. It's all made out of I beam.
Killer engine stand dude. If your using an overhead pulley system it should work great. If you are using a cherrypicker style hoist I'd make sure the its not to wide at the base to get a cherrypicker around it. I had that problem with a 1250 lb rated engine stand was not fun!!!
Dont get me started on not getting me car done when you have been working on your merc for how long now next time you are out this way stop by
