O.K. guys, here is my dilemna... My 38 Ford pickup is setting on a 33 Chevy 4dr chassis. It has a 70 Nova rearend installed. But, my question is about the front. It has the original 33 chevy front end, all well and good. But along with that are the original mechanical front brakes. I am wanting to install front disc brakes on it, without installing a different front end assembly. I would like to keep my original straight axle and steering assembly. What are my options? Is there a manufacturer that makes a disc conversion for it, or would I have take an alternative route? Thanks in advance for the help.
ECI makes a kit , its a nice kit , I have them on my 32 chevy axle. http://www.ecihotrodbrakes.com/early_chevy_discbrake_conversions.html
The easiest way to tell is pull out the outer wheel bearing and measure the inside diameter, the light duty spindle has 11/16 in. diameter outer bearings, standard is 3/4 in. Other method is to read the bearing numbers stamped on the edge of the spindle races. Last two numbers on light duty bearings are 21 outer and 22 inner, standard spindle numbers are 01 outer and 02 inner.
