Mini Van Seats In a 32

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by 345 DeSoto, Apr 1, 2009.

  1. I've read on a couple of Posts that mini van middle seats are a drop in on the 32 Coupe...which model/year. Has any one used them in a Roadster? Pictures of them in either?...

I used just the bottom in a 32 roadster worked great .Ihave one in the barn can measure it for you?

  3. Did you use it with the mount too, or just the cushion part? How did it fit?...

  4. Don't know about the 32,but the middle seat backrest from a first generation Voyager is a perfekt fit in a 27 roadster, don't know about the bottom part because of too much driveshaft tunnel... "lo car = hi tunnel"

Mine is out of a late 90's Dodge mini van, it was the far rear removable seat. It fit perfectly. I stripped it, cut all the old hardware off, welded glides and reclined it.

Kirby Kennedy used like 93 Dodge mini van seat in his I think. Check TRJ feature on his Model A. Or just PM him on here, his name is Kennedy.

  9. JOLIET JAKE - Do you remember if the rear sear was wider than the center seat...or were they both the same? It DOES look really nice...and the price is right, too.

LITTLE WING - I need a bench seat, and once it's reupholstered I figure a seat is a seat is a seat.

If I do a roadster (which I think is the way to go), all I'd need to do is fab up a seat riser. I need to have room under the seat for a early fifties, GM type, round under-the-seat heater...

The far back seat area is very narrow, it fits between the wheel wells. The middle and back might even be the same, I plan to use the same exact seat in my 37 Ford truck project. They are cheap, strip it down to the tube frame and modify it to. I will hinge the back of the next one so I can throw stuff behind it easier. Find generic glides and weld them on.

I used a middle seat out of a dodge in my 34 P/U and it fit like a glove.

I've got one from a mopar van in my 32. I had to put slide tracks on it because it is fixed in the upright position. But i got another that folds from a ford. The bottom has to be 42 inches wide to fit between the doors.
Davicki, formally heritage re-pop cars, told me somebody makes a roll and pleat interior kit for the 32 that fits these seats.
The only other concern is the foam is stiff. I'm gonna try a king size memory foam pillow from pennys or sears cut in half the long way to fit in the seat. Just like sitting on a fat chick!

life's to short not to have a 32 roadster..............

  15. I've got one out of a 98/99 caravan in my 29 roadster, It's from the center of the van, the rear seat is a little wider and wouldnt fit in the 29 cause it's several inches narrower then a 32. Strip off all the brackets & make your own. Also get one that folds down, just make sure it does'nt have the integral child seats. If you have it covered you're good to go, otherwise you have to deal with the headrest holes. Another nice thing is the seat belts receptacles are attached to the seat frame in the middle, but dont forget to get the belts themselves.

  16. Ya gotta be careful here.
Some - and maybe all - of the vans have receptacles for either the rear three p***enger seat or the middle two p***enger seat.
Many people placed the normally in the rear three p*** seat in the middle and stored the two p*** seat in the garage setting up the van for six and lots of luggage room.

The pics show a mid-90's two p*** seat.
Note that it has two armrests that fit and fold inside the 31 A body.
The seat is about 42" wide measured at the front of the bottom cushion.

    1" square tubing frame.

Lots of room even with a 4" firewall recess and the seat can still go back 2" more.

    I'm 6'0" tall and have a 32" inseam.

    The seat is very comfortable.

Similar and later seats aren't quite as cushy, but not too bad.
Here's a pic of a later seat in my trailer.

    Note the single armrest.

  17. No cutting down required on these seats.
You will want to make a frame since the seat will sit too high in an early car.

Fwiw - 28-29, 30-31 and 32 roadster ****pits are virtually the same size.
Only real difference is the 32 is 2" deeper.

I have the figures if anyone wants them.

There are sheet metal repros available of the original seat riser on 32 roadsters. I have one in my car. I used a Dodge Caravan middle seat and it fits nicely, but I need to lower it some more since the top windshield frame comes right to my lookin-spot. Choices: Lower the seat another 2", buy a full-height windshield (way too much $$$ right now) or grow another 2". Guess I'll get out the Sawzall...

  19. C9 - I guess I couldn't ask for a better fit than that...looks like it was made for the car...

HOTRODTOM - Thank you for the "Heads UP" on the seat riser...

i know someone who just pulled one out of his model A. sure it fit great and looked good in there, but he couldn't stand it for more than a couple miles.
think about it, the seats were probably designed to support kids. another thing, they weren't designed for the amount of use a driver's seat gets. alot of times those seats go unused while there's always someone sitting behind the wheel.
so if you plan on using one, and plan to get it re-covered, think about adding more support.
after a year, my friends seat sagged and offered little cushion or support, and he's not a very big guy either.

FWIW, a '68 Toranado front seat works perfectly in a '51 Studebaker! It even has 6-way power. I know most of you will want to remember this...

P.S. I did the upholstery myself.

  23. Guessing here to an extent . . . it seems the later model is a little thinner on the padding than the earlier seat and may not last as long as you'd hoped.

The earlier maroon seat shown looks like it will stay comfortable for a long period of time.

My 32 has plywood seats sitting on a 32 sheet metal riser, couple grades of foam to form the seat cushion shape - knees, lumbar etc. - and it's doing well after 15 years and 49,000 miles.

Yeah mid year chrysler mini van middle seat. Two styles that I know of one measures 39 1/2 inches wide and sits a little stiffer and shorter in the seat area. Or 41 inches wide but has a little more cushion and sits taller in the seat area. I will use the 39 1/2 inch model in my chevy...ghost

Here's a pic of the seat before it was recovered. It used the factory mounts from the nissan, but Alex sunk that part of the floor down. Once mounted the seats bottom sat almost flush with the floor.

I always try to a 85-90 dodge caravan second row seat. They don't have the ulgy hinge covers on the sides and the foam seems to hold up better.
