O/T a little but kinda screws with my main hobby pretty hard. Hope noone minds too much but since I can't drive and have limited funds due to no work figured I'd vent a little to everyone else. So I'm late 20's and in fair shape. Never go to the doctor unless I need. Well, started having seizures 2 weeks ago. Only had 2 so far but had to ride in the ambulance both times. Well thats about it. waiting for some brain tests to get done and hopefully come back clean so I can get back on the road and go to work. Kinda curious if anyone else has had anything similar to this happen, cus noone I know has. Well thanks to any for listening to my B.S. And I promise to keep the ranting down in the future.

My friend went throught the same thing when he was 17... it ****s... but it's better to be safe than have a seizure behind the wheel... get better!

  3. A pals kid (21) has this going on right now. They cant find anything wrong. Good luck.

definitely agree with you. Don't want to risk other's or mines safety. Just kinda makes it hard to stay focused on wrenching long term when the doc says I can't even drive em.

  5. A few years ago I was having blackouts to the point I woke up in a coagulated pool of blood in the bathroom. Smashed my face off of the vanity on my way to the floor I guess. 911 and a trip to the hospital and after many tests they found nothing.Still having migraines but no blackouts. Still doing tests and finding nothing.I hope they never think of taking my licence......

Well I had the 2 seizures within 2 weeks, Doc said if it had been only one he wouldn't have taken it but that close together is kinda risky. Next one could be at a gradeschool crosswalk as far as he's concerned and I guess I can't blame him. Hope they don't take yours either.

My son had seizures. He is a news video cameraman so he has to drive. They took his license for 6 months. The station is good and had the "On Air Talent" drive him around. Found out he has epilepsy. His seizure came on while sleeping. A specific type of epilepsy. He is on anti seizure medication and hasn't had a problem in 5 years or so. Knock on wood!!!

My son was in his mid 20's when his started. His neurologist said that they can see the specific spot his seizures start. A small malformation in is brain, temple area I believe. Good candidate for surgery which does work. The Dr. says he probably won't need it unless the problem gets MUCH worse.

Take this in the right way, I HOPE they find something and find the right meds for you.

  11. What is your diet and lifestyle like? I had a blackout/seizure type deal in college. MRI showed nothing but I did some research and found out it was from the Pheylalanine in Diet sodas. What had happened was I worked 80 some hours over spring break week finishing up construction on a restaurant. I hate diet pop but the Coke guy left several cases for us to polish off. I must have drank 2-3 cases that week. Well PPA's act to raise your heart rate. Between the elevated heart rate and general exhaustion I went down hard at my grandmothers place on Easter Sunday.

I've got a buddy out in California who has been a gearhead since conception.(maybe even before that...) I met him shortly after he started having seizures about 4 years ago. The doctors had then taken his driving license away. He's a Vietnam vet and suffers from PTSD and most recently a heart condition. But this guy has owned a slew of hot rods and motorcycles throughout his life and grew up in the middle of the custom and hot rod world out there in So Cal. I'm a relative newb to the traditional hot rod scene and he is a virtual encyclopedia on the subject. I pick his brain whenever possible.

It about killed him to do it, but he had to sell his Harley Sportster, '54 Merc and '70 Ranchero. The really cool thing, is that his at***ude has stayed positive. He now gets around town on scooters and bikes.(he got pulled over by a cop recently when he was on one of electric scooters, lol!) When he can, he customizes the scooters and bikes. He just decided, "Screw it, they took my cars away, but I'm still gonna have fun!" At***ude is 90% of the battle and I'm blessed to know this guy. Now I just have to get him to get on H.A.M.B.!

I hope the docs can help you and you feel better soon.

    Proof of his at***ude:
He said there were a few *****s who didn't get it, but he just ignored them. Oh yeah, he's the one on the mini chopper.;)

Funny thing is mine both were morning nearly the same time while I was still asleep. Girlfriend saw them both while she was getting ready for work. I kinda thought it was because I was being a lazy *** and sleeping in since I haven't been working. Haven't had any since they gave me some medication. Now gotta wait to do MRI and some other brain scan stuff.

My son has had a siezure disorder for over 10 years. He is now 30 and unfortunetly still has them, but for the most part they are under control I think its best not to drive until the doctor(s) do their tests. There are many medicines nowadays to help control them , but I think most states want a person to go 6 months siezure free before driving(BUMMER) From what ive read early 20's is when a lot of people start having them.As a person grows older they tend to have less. From my own experience id recommend listening to the doctor and working with her/him and explaining to your friends what has happened,so they will not be caught off guard and know what to do. It might save you ambulance ride . I wish you the best and hope they can get them under control.

I had a seizure while driving my blazer on the 101 about 5 or 6 years ago. Came to and my R/R tire was spinnig in the dirt, and the only thing keepin my truck from sliding, or tumbling down the 60 degree embankment was my L/R tire hooked on the road side of the curd. Took a hook-truck, and a flat bed an hour and a half to get me back onto the road. Luckily, I lied to the police about what happened, told them there was a bee in the truck (you know, cause there's so many bees out at night right?) and I'm alkergic and freaked out tryin to shoe him out, and since there was no damage they didn't make a report. I probably should have gone to a doctor, but I'm poor. either way, it was the only time it ever happened, and I hope it never happens again.

  19. Careful with an MRI since many guys in our hobby get metal particles in our eyes. The magnetic resonance machine may disturb the particles and can cause damage/blindness. I can,t have an MRI.....

  20. There have been many who have been great wrenches from everything from wheelchairs on up. Ray Godman from Memphis ran top fuelers from his chair, Phil Weiand built a company without the use of his legs.
Don't give up your hobby just cuz ya can't get behind the wheel.

My brother, who is mentally handicapped, has had mild seizures all his life. My Mother read that eating cherries helped. She bought can cherries and he eats a bowl every day. Since then, he has not had any seizures and it's been years.

thanks to all for your input. This actually has made me leap toward being a little healthier. I'm just coming out of the invincible age and realizing I'm probably not bullet proof anymore. So if anything it has been a good warning for me to shape up even if these seizures aren't related to me being a little unhealthy. Well thanks again to all.

One of my co-workers' son has seizures, and they are using drugs and a modified diet to treat it. They just went to Boston to see a team of spe******ts, who have had success with no drugs and a strict diet on other patients.
