I need to get some new valves for a Buick straight eight, and before I pay the going rate from the vintage suppliers, I would like to look through a catalog to see if I can find replacements that would work. Anybody know of one online? Valves are 3/8 inch stem, 5.125" length, intakes are 1.535" diameter and exhausts are 1.345". I could likely open up the chambers a bit and use 1 9/16 on the intakes and 1 3/8 on the exhausts. Thanks!
http://www.ferrea.com/index.php That is where I got stainless valves for my Packard and Plymouth four. Bought the stem and head sizes I wanted and cut them to lenth and made the keeper groove
Try Kanter & EGGE , these two have most of the internal parts for a lot of engines . I know Kanter has them . Hope this helpes !
fitting different guides and reducing the stem diameter to 5/16" would open up a world of choices for you, with the added benefit of increased airflow and reduced valvetrain mass. most of your benefit from increasing valve sizes for early overheads like the buick will come from increasing the exhaust valve size. ask your machinist if there is enough room to go to 1.48 or so on the exhaust, and maybe 1.625 on the intake.
