As some of you know, I recently purchased a 1954 Buick Special 2DR Sedan. I'm cleaning up the interior a bunch and it's great because it sat in a barn for 30 years and all the windows still roll up and down freely, the side vents still crank open even :D! The only thing is that I thought the rear side windows were suppsoed to go all the way down. Mine currently don't  and before I start tearing off the wall panels, which are still in really good shape, I wanted to know for sure if there is something stopping them or not.

Maybe just the hardtops rolled down all the way?

Any help is appreciated! Thanks in advance!

Yeah, that's kinda what I thought. They are both even ish. There were alot of furry critters living in the seats and I wasn't sure if maybe they migrated into the walls. The reason I asked is because having them both hung up in close to the same spot wouldn't be the strangest thing i've ever seen...

    Thanks for the help

    Part way.
Ask the E-1 at autozone for a freeze plug for your Xj-6 and in Tucson he says "freeze plug,, wazzat?" and the xj-6 threw him off too.

Gotta remember there's a wheel well down there somewhere...prolly preventing the window from going all the way down...

It is the rear wheel well gettin in the way. The hard-top windows go down, but by way of a rotation-and-and-down action. On the sedan you are out of luck in the stock window mechanism that is a simple up-and-down, and I don't think there would be room to anything differently. Sorry to say, but a cool car. Have fun!

I may have some parts for you at the end of the summer, pending a century hard-top I am trying to bring home. Check back with me at the end of the summer.

    Happy wrenching,

They only go 3/4 way down. Plus You might want to get in there anyway and make sure your drain hoses are clear, so when you wash the car, the water goes out the rocker panel and not in the car. I just did mine on my 52 Special the hoses where completely clogged.

Chop the car the amount of the gap when the window is down, take the glass out of the channel and cut that much off of the bottom, reinstall the glass and you should have a window that goes all the way down and still seals in the up right position.

That would be a whole hell of a lot of work but may look cool as hell.

    Stupid idea !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok, thanks guys. That's kinda what I was thinking, but I hadn't taken the panel off to really see. I'll check on that drain for sure.

Top Chopin' ain't on my list of things to do as of now haha, but the thought did cross my mind.

    Thanks!

Hey Naildriver, you describe this, "Fun: At a parts counter, watch the kid's head spin while asking him to find any '54 Buick parts".
Try asking an older broad at a local Napa auto parts for 2 1/4" Brass Freeze plugs for the the ol 264 Nailhead......She actually told me that they "Don't exist".

Haha, that's awesome! I was having fun with the kid asking him to look up master cylinder, carb rebuild kit, wires, plugs, a whole bunch of stuff. The kid was astonished that they used the same spark plug for like 15 years at least in GM vehicles. Then Bugman was with me and told the kid that his plymouth uses the same plug too hahaha, that was fun.

Check this one, My buddy and I went to the Pomona Show and Swap. We ran into a Water pump vendor. My buddy says "hey, why don't you ask him if he has one for your Nail". I says, "yeah right, he ain't gonna have it". The guy over hears our conversation. He chimes in amd says, " I got it all, bud...Try me. What engine do you have?" I say, "264 Nailhead". He just nodded his head and walked away. My buddy and I just cracked up.
I have given up trying to find parts at the local shows. I just hunt on the internet now. But like you, and a lot of us out there, I still love my Buick.
