I gave my truck a face lift...sort of...

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by terd ferguson, Apr 1, 2009.

  1. Huh? I don't understand this line of thinking at all. This is the pre-'64 body style that still has the 50's era wrap-around windshield, and now it has a '60 model hood and grille?

I like the '60-'61's--I dig it!

People are gonna like what they like. No hard feelings though. You can't please everybody. And I'm not really trying to anyway. I feel what you're saying though about not posting. This is the way I look at it,
if I need to get something done on the truck or the bel air (and there's always something that needs doin), but don't really feel like it, I check out the hamb. Nine times out of ten, it inspires me to go do it. And I get a good feeling. Even the naysayers know what I'm talking about. Maybe I can do the same, even if it makes someone say "look at that POS, I can do better than that". I don't care, we all have the same goals at the end of the day. I just love cars (and trucks).

I like the new hood too. Old hood is boring and way too common. The new hood has more character. I could go either way on the grill, but good to try your options. I would say a chrome grill either way would be sweet. Maybe chrome the eyes in the hood too and bumpers. Keep working on it, looks like a potentially very nice project to me. Obviously it needs work, but you're working on it. That is the point of a project - not quite there yet and in progress. That is why it is a project and not a finished truck yet.

It's a truck too, so kind of deserves a serious motor under the hood. I vote for a really sweetened up older SBC or how about a 409 if you can find one and have the bucks.

    Hi guys

Ferguson : nice truck. I like em all, especially when they look like they really had to work for a living.

I know I am hijacking this a bit (sorry) but it looks like the right moment to ask the question : why does there seem to be some consensus about 1964 being the limit to all things traditional ? What changed in 64-65 ? I'm here to learn, so please don't flame me ... I thought this would be more appropriate than beginning a new thread just to ask a single question.

As a fng myself, and very new to this board I have discovered that the learning curve here is "bent".
Many different opinions and very hard to keep up with but so much knowledge to be taken in. Keyboard toughguys are everywhere, not just on this site, if you met them in person they probably wouldn't even look you in the eye much less talk their **** to you. Enjoy your new look truck and make it yours....weren't bowtie emblems placed in those openings originaly?
And Hermit, I think your'e question would make an excellent thread, go for it!

Funny that they don't like the stuff and if they've been here long enough they also know that if you DON'T post to it, chances are it will slide down the page quicker than runny **** on a hot day. So why put up a "don't like it" post or a "not trad" response if you know it will send it BTTT.

I'm sending it BTTT just for those kinds of folks. I hope they have a nicer day than having their weaties pissed in.

Check out my sig and check out my kid's truck. We are running an SBC, a NV3500 5 speed, disc brakes, and S10 frame. It isn't TRAD by any means but my 16 year old will be driving it next month so I don't want him wrapped around a tree!

I dig the old hood, always loved the PODS! Jury is out on the grill but put it in and let me see. The GMC grills are always cool in chrome if you could find one.

Weave your own mexican blankets. I did.

I like it. Traditional or not, Ever think of running the older grill with the newer hood?
Just a thought. I like what your doing, older grill looks much much better than the newer one.

Looks good. Those older hoods look good on the 60-63 General Motors trucks that have the wrap around windshield. I prefer the later model smooth hood though.

As for all the ******** no-value-added responses... this place is getting to be like a bunch of old farts yelling at kids for walking across their lawn.

The "POS." comment from Captain Traditional is definately a nice touch and really adds a lot to the thread.

Your car pics don't really reinforce your point. Weld Draglites, 90's flame job, and small block chevys. It doesn't get much more traditional than that. Right? I could go on, but why bother.

Sure are alot of wanna-be hot rodders on this site. A true hot rodder appreciates all forms of modifying and the work that has and is being put into the vehicles.

    I guess if it`s not a gl***-bodied `32 with a SBC then it`s not appreciated?

    My head hurts:

Terd's original posting got us started off well saying Terd was making his truck look older, then came the replies:

Looks good, but I kinda dig the old hood!!!

Dig the new hood, no body uses them. It is gonna look good with the new grille. Send me some pics once you get it on.
    <!-- / message --><!-- sig -->
The hood Terd recently aquaired is Terd's new hood but Terds new hood is an "older" hood than the hood Terd previously had on his truck. So Terd's new hood is really the older of the two Terd hoods.

Therefore if you say you like the new Terd hood are you saying you like Terd's older hood or Terd's newer hood...

See why my head hurts

    Sorry, I couldn't help myself. :D

When I first decided I liked the 58-59 Chevy and GMC's no one really wanted them, kind of the way the 60-62's are. I went through a few of them and as they got more popular I kind of shied away from them. Now I have an International because I like things a little different. Go for it with your hood and the GMC grill....

your new hood looks great on your truck. I kinda like it with the original grill, but maybe see if you can invert the GMC grill and letters for something different???

    keep up the good work.

No sir, I don't like it.

I do like the other grill you plan on putting in. That hoood honestly looks like the rear of something(not being smart-*** ****-look-a-like joke here), not the front. Would make a great lower roll pan front or back, or the back end of something plowboy would churn out.....but as a front......yuck. My opnion.......ignore as needed.

Oh yeah, before you reply........ you asked for our opnion by posting it....... otherwise......... ask yourself, why did you post?

Some of you people are as bad as number matching guys and do not even realize it. This truck is not off topic...just look at one page of threads and see how much stuff is off of topic

...now go listen to your rockabilly, slick back your hair and pretend you are old school as you type on a message board.....yeah, that is really traditional.

I'm not bothered by anyone's opinion. That would be retarded. I was just pointing out the irony of someone saying my pickup shouldn't be here cuz it's not "traditional" while they post up their rides with bad '90's paint, small block chevys, wide back tires, and Weld Draglites. They look straight out of Street Rodder circa 1994. It's just funny to me.

    Nice avatar.

"It's funny because it's ah, bigger than, ah.. [ clears throat ] ..you know, a normal hat."

And I spell "turd" terd because I think it's funnier.

Um, I don't recall asking you anything. Do what you do. It takes all kinds to make the world go round.

Everybody else, thanks for the comments, good and bad. I appreciate everyone's opinion.

I think it's lookin pretty damn good, keep it up. Personally, I've always liked the other hood style better, but when I see this big nostrils driving down the road it just grabs you, I can't realy tell if it's because I like it or not, but hell I'd drive it.

As for the wining and arguing, `I think Terd said it best when talked about going to the HAMB for inspiration, it's guys like Hoitink and Terd who inspire me to get off my *** and get in the garage, I've done 10 times the work to my truck in the last 3 months since the first time I logged on here, than the first six months I owned the truck. Isn't that what we're all here for?

lakeroadster, you gave me a headache, I think, I'm kind of confused...and the room is starting to spin.

My wife got me the chain for my birthday so im gonna have to keep it..:D Just so you know all those cars cept for the yellow one (that one i did the finish ***embly and the better share of the interior) were all built by me I painted the purple one and did the flames also . I didnt paint the orange 32 but I had some extra money back then so I got pro job done on that one. Just because a guy has enuff cash to build a nice car doesnt make him a gold chainer.. A gold chainer is someone that farms out the whole car but on the other hand there are a mul***ude of reasons why some people farm stuff out when they can do it them selves.. You guys have fun beating me up now.. I can and do take it.. **** ive got realitives that **** with me and try to ruin my life so you guys are amateurs.. :D
At least I dont have a red neck and a big belt buckle that says I heart my truck
    Love
