My obligation to the Army is taking me to S.C in july. I was wondering what the car scene is like out there. I am going to be there for a least two years so I would like to get involved in some of the Happenings around the Columbia area.
Well, it is HOT ... Humid and then HOT ... You will burn up ... being used to where you are. Rest easy ... it only takes about 2 years to get used to it. Car wise it is pretty lame ... a couple of monthly cruise ins and a couple small shows is about it. Good Guys is in Charlotte NC at the end of October ... NSRA has the Street Rod event in Knoxville in May and there is Shades of the Past in Pigeon Forge TN ... the first week after Labor Day.
We are up in Charlotte only a couple hours north and always are up to something. Auto Fair, Good Guys, Shop Nights, it's pretty cool. I cannot speak for Columbia though, that place is the pits. Hot Hot Hot! Better hurry up car season is almost over. By July 1st it's too hot to drive until November. Just Kidding.
what are you going to Relaxin Jackson for? I have been there and will probably be back there soon! Might be July/August as well! There are cruise ins everywhere and that is really about it! Good luck, enjoy Jackson! LOL. If you need anything while you are there, let me know. I have a few drills down there I can get to show you around! DS SSG Merritt
There isn't a whole lot hot rod wise in teh area, but there are a few HAMBers hiding around that are cool to hang out with.... If you get down Charleston way (about an hour south on 26) gimme a holler and you can buy me a beer. Holler if you need anything, -Abone.
Over in Fayetteville NC here, so far, but not that far. Not much of a car scene up here, either, but I'll be hunting for more when I get back to the States. Good luck in the new job....
Im in Laurens, SC- About 45 minutes from Columbia. Not much for car stuff around here. Usually have to travel to GA or NC for shows and get togethers. Let us know when you get in town and maybe we can get some people together to grab a beer and burgers.
also known as South Kack a lacky - I love SC - lot's of good people. just don't try to buy anything on Sunday - or do anything for that matter. It's a real quite day in that state.
The Columbia Chevy Club sponsors a cruise-in on the second Sat. of the month at the Fat Boy Drive In at Woodberry Plaza, 3260 Augusta Rd. (US 1), in West Columbia, just across the river. Generally referred to as "Fat Boys," it starts around 1600 and lasts until... Very informal, and usually draws a good mix of traditional rods, antiques, restorods, and even a few brave rice burners.
I'm 40 min north, off I77. Drop in and I will let you buy me a beer too. If its good beer I may allow you to turn a wrench on my Hudson. HA I like racing and hotrods and there is plenty to do if you like diverse auto related activities.
you will have the life there brother! my battle was on range cadre until he came under orders to drill school! they had to take him kicking and screaming!! ENJOY! He had a tremendous amount of time off! I am trying to swap over to range control where I am in Cali!
