    I AM running a mechanical fan. I have a hemi, not a Chevy. :)

Oh, you weren't talking to me? Sorry, got caught up in the moment. It's too ****** cold up here to be out in the garage.

  2. Just FWIW, a quick trip to the junkyard will net you all the parts to make this work, and be real cheap besides.

Why be cheap?? Because sometimes your first idea doesn't work so well, and this way it at least didn't cost you a lot.

Anyway, what to get at the 'yard, and where to find it:
Heavy-duty relays can be found in Audi's. I know for certain that they use 70 amp relays. Also 50 and 40's.
BMW's have a real nice auxiliary relay box that'll mount nice on an inner fender.
    Mercedes use weird relays.
For a thermo-switch, find just about any early GM front-driver. IIRC the switch kicks at 210 and off at 170. You REALLY want the fan to be automatic. REALLY. You can also switch the relay with a toggle.

Well put Revhead. Im not entertaining him anymore. He can take it offline if he wants to get personal.

The grill is not stock and there is reduced airflow and since I am also running a 327 the mechanical fan won't cut it (especially at idle).

The final test before driving tests:

I ran in the garage (ambient 75 today) for 10 minutes at idle and she never climbed above 190. It might be solved but I am concerned about having the solenoid in the engine compartment (even though when I ran the flathead I used FoMoCo Solenoid with no issues) so I might rewire it underneath the dash.

In summary, this does work as Desoto suggests (and I think more robust) and I probably should have went a cheaper rout as Cosmo recommends. Live and learn.

To manny thoughts and ideas to an easy problem. iwould like to start with factory vehicles run hot wire (fused +12v) to the fan. Then the relay is used to control the ground wire (-12v) to the fan. The relay is controled by temp sensor wich grounds out the relay once it reaches a certain tempature,

My 325w has a cooling componets fan running on a 40 amp relay. The 32 panel has a new inproved cooling componets fan. They say use a 70 amp relay. I will use the 70 amp. I had a problem with the fan on the 5w and called cooling componts. They listened to my problem asked some questions and solved my problem. They sent a new fan and at no charge to me. I thank they know their business and I will follow their instruction as to the wiring. That's my $0.02.
