Now is the time to back up your pictures and write-do***ents on CD. I re-do mine every couple of months, only takes 5 minutes.

If my computer ****s out, I'm off to Geek-Sqad for a hard drive backup. Don't just ***ume you lost the pictures, might be retrieveable........

The other week, I went to check my e-mail and my computer got hung up on something and then somehow all my e-mails disappeared and this was my computer I use for work and had about 1.5 years worth of business e-mails which are not ideal to lose. ****, every one gone into thin air. This was on a Friday night. WTF! - ****!!!!!

But, anyway, I use Macs and it was an Imac, but well over a year old. So on Monday morning, I call Apple tech support thinking I was going to have to pay some bucks for some help that would probably not be successful and I was going to be screwed. Nope, within in minute or 2 of getting into cue, I get a very nice person on the line who said that I was still eligible for the free tech support. And, not only that, after a minute of figuring out what went on, she said you should be able to just select the restore mailboxes ****on and that would solve the problem. Bingo, that was it, all e-mails came back and also added in the new ones I had gotten over the weekend.

Ah, Macs are nice. I also have 2 pretty decent PC's sitting next to me for the garbage programs that I have to use them for and yeah, they **** and are ugly too. I have my Imac par***ioned to run Windows as well and frankly never use it and have real desire too.

My advice, get a Mac, wear protection, stay clean.

I built my own PC and the wife is in I.T. for a living. Though I do agree with Linux, for those of you that have Microsoft, here is a great anti-anything setup....and it's FREE.
Oh, it's made by Europeans......SO IT WORKS.

    Link: Avast AntiVirus

It will even get rid of that horrible Win32 and Virtumonde alot of you may have received in the past. Not sure how it is against the new Conficker virus though.

ALSO, one drawback I have to Avast. It will run in the background, which is fine and peachy, but because it's such a beast, it can take up alot of ram.
SO, here is what I do. Click the link above, download it. THAT download you get, save it in a folder somewhere. Install Avast, it will ask if you want to run a BootScan, say yes as alot of virus will propagate themselves on your boot, essentially being undead from systems like Norton or McAfee, hence they won't be found and on the next start up, they come back to life....like the undead.
Anyway, after I have scanned my PC and all that jazz, I UNINSTALL Avast so that it doesn't run in the background all the time.
BUT I keep that initial download from that link above in a folder. Every once in awhile, I reinstall it and run a scan, then uninstall it.
    Simple Pimple.

    Good stuff.

Oh, and on the backing up of files, get an External Hard Drive. You can get them at Fry's Electronics, Best Buy, etc.
They are super easy to use and a great storage place for family pics and such.
About the size of a couple packs of smokes and ya can find ones with HUGE hard drive space for under $100.
(not mine, but a good example of one)
I keep mine in my desk drawer. Every once in awhile, I dig it out, plug it in and move any photos and such that I have saved over to it and then put it back in my desk.
Of course, pics I have on photobucket and such I have duplicated and they stay on a folder ON my PC, but that's just necessary, the originals are on the External Hard Drive.

the VIRUSES is on your comp before anyone even knew it existed, then it take how long for a fix to be worked out, i think its the dam anti virus companies who make them up just so they can make money fixing them, dam it.

Hate to show my geek side, but not backing-up business email, is like running out of frozen burgers at McDonalds. How do you expect to stay in business??

Anyway, the word is Acronis! I use their professional version that does a bare metal restore, so if the hardware crashes, and the hardware isn't sold anymore, you can just get a new machine and restore.

I have been on a Mac for years but use Bitdefender for the poor sods at work who have to endure the toxic Windows Vista - anything Windows is about as user friendly as a cornered rat - oops, wash my mouth out with soap and water - can't use the 'R' word here now can we?

Not sure, but been in business now for myself for over 10 years, burned through a couple dozen computers, mostly Macs, but a few PC's, one with LINUX a long time ago, do back up what I consider the crucial files on my small network server, still staying busy and making money and never lost anything too critical on a computer yet. So, not sure how to stay in business, but just lucky I guess. But maybe one smart business move is paying a little extra for Macs instead of cheaping out and having to worry about having my *** covered all the time. Pay up front or pay later I guess. Paying more up front seems to work pretty well for me so far. Maybe that is my secret.

Wow. Do once a week autoback up, auto scans, auto updates, and no worries. Run three different computers here everyday and most nights almost 24-7 and NO issues.

No apples, linus' or tigers or bears.

I have been in the antivirus business for a long time. I don;t work for these guys (they're the compe***ion) but I would use Kaspersky on any windows machine.

If it has appeared in the last day or so it's Called CONFICKER /DOWNADUP worm .

You need to get expert advice, not advice (no matter how well intentioned) from web sites or those pimping antivirus ware.

It probably has been on your system for some months with a switch on date of the 1st April. Very friggen funny...NOT>

That is if you are actually able to use the system anyway.

Most Trojans come from **** sites,so if you sit in front of the Computer ************ you and your PC will go blind....:D:D

  27. I run AVG antivirus, Spybot and Ad-Aware - one secret is you have to keep them updated regular. I picked up some sort of virus the other day that would crash my browser and was popping up an ad window sometimes, and it took two days of updating, scanning, and removing about 6 things to resolve it. But it's gone now -

Now if I could just turn off this damned AOL IM updater thing.
