thank you for your response, I am aware that to find a job in California is especially hard in this economically bad period ,
I am very versatile, dynamic, 37 years old , I know tig welding ,mig welding , metal bodyworks, I build hot rods and kustoms , (I can send picts by email) my knowledge is important about american car environement (sales, purchase of complete vehicle and rare parts ), I know the logistic system of car exportation, I came several times in California and other states to imports vehicles and parts, 'i've a good relation ship with european car and parts enthousiasts,I had a skateboard store in 2000 to 2005, so i know buying, selling ,and logistics chain management, I love the Kustom culture, and of course I can cook french food meals !
i can works with kids (i've teached "how to skateboarding"and "how to snowboarding"),I am not afraid about resposability and ,I can organize a working post and manage peoples...
hope to help me and find something ,many thanks

  8. You will need a work permit & social security card to work here, if you are not a Legal Resident, you can only stay 3 months. If you 'jump ship' and stay here illegally, you run the risk (small as it may be) of prosecution and/or deportation.

I did it 'properly' and it took almost 3 years & cost several thousand dollars.

because ,if your are not like everybody ,with a "RENAULT" and a nice house ,you are a looser ,if you don't have a job like every body ,you are a looser ,if you want to live different ,with an "american culture" life, like skateboarding ,hot rod & kustoms ,tatoo...you can't make something.
when you talk about your bank for money ,for a new "american car garage" he laughs, for a new skate shop ,he laughs.........!
about car culture ,everybody laughs ,everything is undercontrole ,hot rodding is outlaw ,choppers are outlaw ,gas is probitif, there is no fun in france ,etc
brad pete's have big money to have fun everywhere in the world........!

If you don't want to be restricted, California is the last place to move to. Look into Austin TX, Kansas City MO or Madison WI. We have more fun and cost of living is about 10%.

Look into the fabricators and shops that post here. The more you research, the better informed will be your contacts. If you are truly interested, there'll be a way to get started.
The HAMB will support the interest, I hope you'll keep looking and find the right place(s) to start. Not all are in Cal, by-the-way.

Props to anybody that comes to this country legally and contributes. A buddy is going through this process right now and he's back in Europe for the next round of appeals for a work permit....it infuriates me that if you're totally unskilled you get a 'path to citizenship' but if you're bringing needed talent you jump through hoops and spend unbelievable $$$...and they're crying about a $10,000 fine to be legal, hah!

Anyway back to the topic I don't havea a hookup for you *but* my experience is it's tough to get a job when you're not here to see people in person so they can look at the cut of your gib, so to speak.

I moved here and stayed on a friend of a friend's couch for a few months till I got a job and started getting on my feet. At any rate I live in los angeles shoot me a PM if you'd like to talk more. Good luck!

The Charlotte, NC area might work well for someone with your skills. Almost all the NASCAR shops are located in that area, along with some of the best rod shops in the country. The climate isn't bad and the cost of living isn't either. Good luck in your quest for citizenship...like was said before, all contributors should be welcomed. Our ancestors were all immigrants at one time. Mine were from Ireland.

For a cheaper start on a business to use your skills...there was/maybe is a truck based welding outfit in NJ focused on hotrod/custom work. They work at customer's garage handling welding chores that are beyond the customer's skill level. Their base is just a truck full of welding gear.

They fill holes, install patch panels, and do other sheetmetal work as needed. Work is coordinated with the customer, so he can round up parts, prepare what he can do, and be left with a body needing only the work he is capable of.
One of my friend used them on a Model A project...in a blitz lasting only a few hours, the filled lots of holes, installed a kit firewall, put in a patch panel, etc. Think of all the rodders and customizers in this country trying to build at home and working up against the limits of their metal skills.
