I would go but I'd just buy a bunch of stuff I need. And also we just sold our house and I'm leaving for work on sunday. So I have to get the garage empty.
First one I'll miss in a long time, sad to me in a way because after last year I almost died right after that swap...... Sorry ****ers, I'm still here buying the parts you really want and need but not this weekend, so go ahead boys and buy away!!!!
Just talked to my Friend John, he just scored six 97's and an aluminum flywheel for a flathead V8 for 120.00!!!! I'm heading down tonight! Can't wait!!!
Dang, I knew I forgot something going out the door. Should have checked here to see what spaces to find HAMBers in. Here are a few pics for those who don't or can't do swap meets anymore. It was definitely worthwhile, but I only live 10 miles away and have all weekend to recover. Seemed to be lots of induction parts: Couldn't get a good focus on this one - seems my camera is billet proof. There were some customs: Trucks look best to me with the patina: Possible HAMBer: Twin '34 Dodge Brothers: Short, stout Studie pickup: All the tin: More good patina: Hubcaps, license plates, books and manuals, toys, pedal cars, and all that other standard swap meet stuff was there, just not in overwhelming quan***ies like back in the day. More pics at my link.
There's still time to go. I saw a lot of Idaho and Washington plates in the parking lot. California and British Columbia, too. When I was leaving today it seemed liked all there were was outta-state cars in the parking lot. What was happening was they were guiding the foreigners to the closer in parking.
If you're there early, there are a few spots on the road north of the race track. Otherwise it's 10 bucks to park. It's $7 for entry to the Expo swap meet and $5 for the swap meet at Portland International Raceway. In the past they discounted the Expo meet to $4 on Sunday.
Theres tons of good stuff, you just need to take your time and look in each stall. The people that blast through riding on scooters miss half the **** and complain there wasnt anything good. I scored a ton of tools and two rolling tool boxes. I got some parts for my harley and other odds and ends. And that was just close to my stall that Im running. Come on down to PIR in the next two days and stop in to 2190 and look our stuff over. If you buy anything, you get a free shop rag with flathead parts silkscreened on it, theyre pretty cool. Look for the HAMB Friendly sign! Later!
Was at the race track today. Found zip, except for the frickin rain off & on all day.My back hurts now, so get your tan tomorrow, per the weather man or woman. I'm staying home tomorrow & nursing my back & will sit in the sun? & drink beer.Nutin at the swap meet anyway,LOL, so walk your *** off tomorrow & i'll be thinking of you,LOL.
We intend to head down hopefully early tomorrow. I won't know what I want until I see it but a finned aluminum cover for a Dana 60 could be high on the list. We intend to make it to the meet and greet at noon.
I went down yesterday because it was a free ride. I spent $30.50, which included admission and lunch. To be honest, I really didn't need anything, but there didn't seem to be many good deals on stuff that I normally watch out for. If I were looking for worn out dirt bikes or dune buggy parts, Portland was the place to be. Dave
I was at the expo side from open to close yesterday. It was a big let down. Seemed like half the grounds were filled with toys, dirt bikes, clothes, and harbor freight-like tool vendors. Did find some good parts to buy but they were few and far between. Still looking forward to next year though....
Me and my awesome Girlfriend just got back it was her first time, we had a blast! didnt really score anything super cool but at least the weather was great and the cars were amazing.
Best buy I heard of was a 1932 Ford 25 louver hood complete , with original tops that had punched louvers too , for $1000 at the Expo meet.............Z.
My friend Pete bought that hood. He had a buyer for the hoodsides all lined up and ended up making $700, plus he kept the hood top.
I met a few HAMBers today! Thanks for stopping buy and chatting. Sold a bunch of shirts and found some cool deals on some exhaust pipes. Im not sure what everyone else is looking for that theyre so dissappointed... humm. Yea, the PIR has alot of dirtbikes and scooters, only because its "legal" to ride them there on the track. And the venders know that every year LOTS of tired shoppers buy them for cheap and ride them around. Also TONS of bicycles for the same reason. But, I didnt see the prices any higher than any other year, seemed reasonable to me. Maybe because were all feeling the crunch of the economy, we all look closer at prices now, who knows. And the harbor freight style tool guys are there every year, have been for just years. Seemed to be a couple more of them tho this year. I did notice some weird stuff however, like selling bulk gatorade and scissors and gum and socks. Totally unrelated. They should be told not to come back. All in all, I think the two combined swapmeets are getting bigger each year. I was pleased to see, that even with the economy, there seemed to be MORE vendors this year than last. Also, I was pleased to see more parts vendors at the expo this year than just alot of cars for sale like in the past few years. Ive been going to this swapmeet for the past 31 years in a row, never missed one, and Id say that this year was pretty good. Nothing for me to complain about anyways
Stopped in a the NW HAMBers meet up. Had a really good hot dog and met up with some cool folks. The sun came out and i got a little sun tan on my face.... IN PORTLAND!!!! had a blast, walked all day. Had to promise my wife I wouldnt buy any cars, otherwise there were two I would come home with. We'll see if they are still available after the swap meet
We had a great time. Walked so much that my 15 year old son got blisters. I didn't see any smokin deals first hand but I really don't expect that at a swap anymore. Just looking for the fair deal these days, and enjoying the time with my buddys.
Bought early dodge hemi tri power, edmunds fh 2-2,fenton 15x3.5 wheels,39 pedals,37 desoto bumper, some kelsey hayes 16 inch wire wheels, some 56 dodge royal lancer hubcaps,NOS casler cheater slicks mounted on NOS 5 spokes, hurst cheater slicks, etc. Always a good swap meet for me.
Couldn't go. My wife tried to kill the washing machine, and it cost me $200 and two days to fix it. No cash left for car stuff. Can't figure out how she did it.....she never uses it.
Couverkid - you did good!! No wonder you were smiling whenever I saw you!! I mostly sold some big stuff that's always hard to ship. I bought a cool old onyx shiftknob, some nos vintage shackles for an early V8 Ford, a guage cluster for a '55 chevy car for 10 bucks, and the guy ended up giving me a wagon load of really nice '55 stuff just cause - all for the original 10 bucks, a couple hundred worth of mint dash parts etc, on Expo set up day! Got muddier than **** at the PIR 'mud bog', froze to the bone til today, Saturday. Rode my bike about a million miles between the two swaps and around the track, almost had it confi****ed by the Expo gestapo, got a rear load of Billetproof fliers and talked with Choptop , chatted with Boones, hung out with some other great Hambers (you know who you are), talked, walked, and roamed around with my kids on Saturday, along with scoring a few needed and very inexpensive goodies for this year's project - but overall didn't find most of the hard to find goodies I was searching for, probably BECAUSE I was looking. My best score of the weekend though, was the roll bar out of Wayne Miller's old '32 Ford drag seedan. I saw it for sale, didn't like the price so p***ed. This morning, they were carrying it by my stall, I asked what was up - if they sold it or what - they said no, it's heading for the dumpster. I told 'em, I would take it of course! Maybe it will fit well into my '33 seedan project, maybe not - either way it's a keeper! Really cool piece. AWESOME few days great people, great cars n parts, 5 days away from reality pretty much. Doesn't get any better!
'bought a pair of '49 Lincoln wheels, an old dropped and filled axle, a couple old gauges, a finned valley cover for the Olds', a Hollywood tag light and some other misc. goodies 'hired a couple kids to haul my stuff at the racetrack, 11 year old boy and 6 year old girl, I asked how much, they said $5.00, I said that I had just gotten there and I wanted to see it all. they said that's fine, it's $5.00 a load. they hauled my junk on a hand truck for miles, for about three hours. never once complained, always a positive at***ude. very good to know there are kids that are not afraid to work. their parents should be very proud. we made one big loop and I gave them a twenty, we made another smaller loop and I gave them another twenty, I wanted to give them more but didn't want to spoil them- haha
Went to P-town yesterday meet North Portland Custom, Mike Miller and Movin on Good to meet you guys And Meet up with Z Diddy over at the Expo found some good stuff had a good time
Did the swap in friday, got to exchange the headers I bought the previous year for the 57 and found a decent deal on a factory corvette dual quad intake. that was it, nothing else really jumped into my "had to have" catagory. Guess I was watching my money alittle closer and with no garage to store the stuff. I had hoped to find a small 76 gas station bulb. (the ones that are about 2' in diameter and are usually mounted on the canopies above the gas pumps. (I want one for the garage I am building)
We went down Saturday morning and I think I'm getting to the point where a 150 mile drive and a several mile walk and a 150 mile drive back is a bit much for one day. We hit the meet and greet A couple of photos of some of the folks who showed up. s The hotdogs looked and smelled great we were still full from our grab and run breakfast on the way down. Jean met a lot of nice folks who let her sit in a lawn chair in their booths around the grounds. I got run over by a drunk on a Jazzy scooter. I did get a photo of the previously (on another page) mentioned motorized cherry picker. If that thing would have had a pair of seats on it it might have come home with me. I didn't buy much as I couldn't find a lot that I couldn't do without at them moment and I wasn't sure if a couple of things were a good deal or not. I did get a worm drive skill saw for a good price (needed one) and forgot to look for headlight doors for the 71 truck until we were out the gate and on the way to the car. There are a few photos here http://s173.photobucket.com/albums/w71/mr48chev/Portland swapmeet 09/
