40 ford front end /rear end??how desireable??

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Topolino Kid, Apr 4, 2009.

  1. talked to an old dude the other day who had a stocker 1928 model A...long story short, he has a 40 ford rearend and front end and is wanting to do some trading for my 28 model a axel, hubs brakes and wishbone...good trade? is there anything special or overly desireable about these 40 ford parts???i don't need them for my topolino, i have all that stuff already...been hanging onto the model A axel and wishbone just cause...opinions???????????thanks....

oh yeah, my hubs spin great, non-juice brakes work perfect, and the model A axel and bones are basicly pittless....just don't wanna make a dumb trade.......thought maybe i could do some dealing to help towards getting some fat *** tire cash together....seems there's too many A axels and bones here for sale to make anything on them..although they are listed in the cl***ified..priced by what i seen other setups for sale here....but then maybe i'm off on pricing??what's a good a axel and unsplit wish bones worth??only thing wrong with the front end is the cross bar for the steering is bowed in the middle..looks like it was lifted by it maybe fron ???

  2. Juice brakes. You can drop the axle or run it as is, round back spindles, way mo better than your 28. TRADE

  3. what about the rearend?anything special or desireable about it??

juice brakes go for about 200 all day long complete each set. the front springand rear springs are good to have aswell. they use the front for 35/36 rear bones, front axle is way better as is the spindals and hubs. i know id like to have the 40 bones. does it come with wheels? you will be on the top side of this trade for sure!

I just paid 375.00 for a complete 1940 rear axle with the bones, spring/shackles,yoke
in great condition. I'll be putting it in my A coupe. Depends on your horsepower?

  6. well it sounds like we got a trade if i want... axel for axel..but it has no backing plates and no drums..but has hubs...wishbone has already been split..asked about the rearend and says has it all, but torque tube has been cut down...radius rods ect all supposed to be there...he's driving up here in a bit, so i have to gather all info i can..and a big thanks for the info posted..call me an info junkie, but i need to know a lil more..decide if it is worth my time to drive down and look at the rear end..he's older and i'ld have to go down to help load the rear..

As long as he isn't trying to "launder" his bad parts to you for your good stuff it sounds like a good trade. If all the parts were in comperable condition, I would say you would be on the top side of that trade. Good luck! Lightning.

  9. can a banjo be narrowed to work under the topolino??i know they aren't that stout....but, they sure look cool....

  10. If you wanted to convert to modern axles it would make it much easier as you cut the end of the axle housings off anyway and add "modern" 9" housing ends. Could be a cool project. Hot Rod Works offers this service, they are on the HAMB.

SURE! My Lyndwood rail has one. The '40 spindles are worth the same or more than that Model A axle 24/7.

  12. alright...a axel loaded and looks like i'm trading the $20 heater i bought for Lil Beast for the complete rear ***embly minius one drum ...and old dude is riding me down and bringing the rear back..all i have to do is ride along and help load..pics later.......thanks for the heads up info.....

  13. well made the trade..don't know how well i made out...these bones are pefect..have nice bungs and new tie ends , and are nicely welded..ya can see the shock mount cut off the drivers side of the torque tube...the torque tub has been cut down and the welding is very nice..also i have the input end/coupler an it looks good...double click for close up...also the other 3rd set of bungs laying are the other curved set..they have new ends and bungs but still need to be welded....also how many springs should there be...i have what looks like the smaller ones not bolted to the rearend...

they cut off a shock mount off the rear end...2 pairs of the bones have been curved...and the one set is perfect...the pair here have bungs, but just tacked and one old balljoint...i gues for sizing..the front axel has had 2 tabs welded to it, was being setup for i think he said 1/4 midget???looks like i can saw them down and dress it up to look like they were never there...hubs spin nicely, very lil play...

Still made a good trade from where I sit! Those spindles are nearly as desireable as the 37-41 variety. Good swap!
