Thought Id post some pics of a car Ive been working on for a bout a year and a half now on nights and weekends. Its a 1950 2dr Merc I bought from a friend of mine in Mississippi. Pretty rough to start with but price was right and hell its a learning experience. Heres what it looked like when I got it.

Once I power washed the frame there was more rust than metal so I decided to make my own using 2x4 tubing and mate it to the original front stub.

Im putting air suspension on it so I made the rear kickup over the axle blend in with the flow or the frame. Heres the Merc clip welded on. Everything lined up really well.

Im using a 500 Cadillac motor so I decided to run a rack and pinion setup which required a $hitload of modifying to the front clip.

Once I got this done I started on the floor, or lack of floor. I had to replace the inner rockers and body mounts too. Basically the entire floor pan and firewall.

I used a 500 Cadillac motor and a 400 auto transmission. I got this all set in place before doing the floor.

Front frame horns made different so the radiator will clear the hood. I got 2 16" electric fans from my work that fit perfectly.

Excellent workmanship on this. I can't imagine having to build that frame from scratch.

  29. Very cool thread.

I have a '49 Linc coupe that I have just dropped a 500 caddy engine into.
My ch***is has been fully boxed with new crossmembers and a Jag front subframe graft and jag diff.
    Love them caddy 500's.
