just doesnt look right to me , i actually thought you were joking. but what the hell do i know, nothing thats what. ha
The story goes further..I've seen this truck in person like 5 times spread out over a few years. Everytime I saw it it was like one parking lot over, or on the other side of the street. Everytime I get to where it was he was driving away....that sort of thing. Finally I saw it stopped on a street in Hollywood and pulled up behind it and got out (I was in my 56) and waved at the dude. He kinda looked away real fast and jumped in his truck and took off. All I wanted to say was "Tell me about your truck." I'm just really curious. It looked good going down the road..
That truck was built here in Idaho by Tony Farnetti Sr. It is a Studie cab, hood, and fenders on a Toyota frame with the Toyota 4 cylinder and transmission. The bed was made from the front sheetmetal of an Olds Toronado. The suspension is bone stock Toyota truck and the body is chanlled low over the frame. Black vinyl diomond tuck interior. Tony put a ****load of miles on that thing. Guess it's in California now?
Futuristic. One of a kind. A work of art. When I was a kid, starting about 50 or 51, I believe, with the rounded body style, they were considered out of the ordinary, and that truck puts an explaination mark on that.
Well, it definitely is one of a kind and very different-Hey isn't that the main goal? We build our stuff the way we want it and who cares if you like it or not? Its his dream in reality.
The Finnns truck is owned and driven as a DD, the guy that owns it goes by the name of "****** John". He is a good friend of Rich & Penny Pichette (sp). BB
I'm actually curious about the headlights myself. The truck as a whole leaves a little to be desired its like whoever built it wanted to do one of everything to it as opposed to the old rule that less is more when building a custom but who am I to say. If I was the altime expert on the subject I could make a good living as a traveling car show judge.
Dreddybear, I don't blame you for liking that truck. A full custom if I ever saw one. Can you imagine how many hours went into all that bodywork? Wish I had the talent to produce something that radical, and obviously, drivable.
Neither of the two kustom Studes shown here are Farnetti's. You are right that he built one up in Idaho with Toyota running gear and stuff, but it had early 50's Buick grille teeth and canted quad headlights. I looked and looked all over for some pictures of it on my 'puter, but I don't have any. All my pics of it are in photo albums. He did sell it a few years ago on Ebay and as far as I know it ended up in the midwest somewhere. Ohio maybe, but I could be wrong. I tried to buy it but I got outbid. It was way over the top, but with a little tweaking here and there it could have been a lot of fun. The Finnns Stude has been around forever. I remember seeing pictures of it in Custom Rodder in the early 90's at the cruise in Car Show at the old Hot Rod's of Norco. I liked it then, and I still like it now. I was lucky enough to drool on it in person at Paso '03. Annnnnnnnnnnnndddddddddddddddd, no conversation of kustom Studebaker trucks would be complete without including pictures of Dave Pareso's truck out of Colorado Springs. This truck is a survivior. It was built up in northern Colorado in the early 60's and has managed to stay around. One of these days I'll have to try to make Dave an offer he can't refuse for it. I would be proud to own this one! I also found another pic of the Finnnns truck on my computer, so I thought I add it, too. E
`wow, thought the finnnns truck had more history to it. if i rememeber correctly traditional rod and culture did a write up on this truck. im moving this weekend but i will see if i can find it a little later on.
He, he, he. Vultures flocking to the scene of an aborted fawn. Kind of ironic, eh? Edit; Oops, that made it sound like I didn't like it. To the contrary.
NNNNOOOOO SSSHHHIIIITT!!!! I WAS wrong!!! Sorry about that. It has been many moons since I last saw Tony's truck, and that red oxide one indeed is not it!!!!
Yeah! That's it! I know it is edgy as far as customs go, but I still dig it. Thanks for posting these! Nice color you chose to put your Studey in 48bufordsled. I like it! E
I suprised I've never seen this truck before! This thing is Bad ***! I wouldn't change a thing about it. Well maybe lower it a little.
i threw up a little in my mouth when i saw the "finns" truck. I am not discounting the work that must have went into. I commend someone doing all of that but it just doesnt work for me. To each his own I guess...... The one with the merc front however is pretty sweet.
