Here's my '54. It's now in the Roaches shop to have a new grill & possibly some scallops added. I'll post photo's as soon as it is finished.

Yep. I got a '50 Shoebox Ford grill that is going to slot in it's place real nice. I'm in the process of doing the job now & waiting on the grill parts to come back from getting re-chromed (around another 3 weeks to go!). I've already cut the new grill down to size & also need to weld up the holes in the lower valance left by the old grill & then paint. Hopefully all done in 3-4 weeks. Also going to try my hand at some scallops. Will post results soon!

Here's mine from a few years ago. Tore it down two years ago and replaced the Volare front end with a Mustang II. Ended up replacing the engine and transmission; added disk brakes on rear; and moved the gas tank from under the running board to the rear. It's still on jack stands but I hope to have it back on the road this summer.

BBrust, it will be interesting to hear your comments on replacing the Volare. Did you drive it much with the Volare?

I put about 10,000 miles on it. It rode decent but the steering was too light and didn't have much road feel. It was easy to align and didn't wander all over the road.

For the first couple of years I had the torsion bars set so low,you needed to lift the front to get it on the lift but I thought it looked good. In 2002, I put Fat Man Spindles on it which gave more adjustment and a much better ride.

Other than road feel, I have no complaints about the Volare.

Can't wait to see the finished product. It should look really good. I am replacing my stock 54 grille with a grille from a 55 that I bought off of ebay.

54's don't have the best looking grills out there. I was going the 55 or 56 route then saw the 50 Ford grill on ebay. It's in pretty good shape & cost me 45 US, with shipping to the UK it came to 80 US or at the time 43 UK Pounds. I'm happy with that but re-chroming is costing me 90 UK / 120 US.
