Hi Guys, I'm trying to find some information on Harrell (or Harrell Los Angeles) intakes and heads for the flathead. I have a stunning triple intake that I'm goingt o run but know nothing about either the brand or the intake itself. Does anyone have any history they can share? Know how they perform? Danny
Can't see Dick Harrel being involved in Flathead stuff....but you never know....He died in a funny car crash in 72.
Who cares how it performs??? That's the wildest looking flathead intake ever! Just the WOW factor should be good for an extra hunnert miles an hour!
I know they are getting recast now ( original Molds) and they do perform very well. I know a buddy that has the new ones on his flatty
Hi Crew, Thanks for the posts - the intake is a wild looking piece and very clever in its design - dual plane, 180 degree. I'll be running 3 94's (well that's the plan one of them might be blocked off) with a progressive linkage. From what I can gather, the designer is a Chuck Harrell from Harrell Engines/Motors (aka Jim's Auto Parts) in Los Angeles. This is about all I can find out about the company. I would kill for some of those matching Harrell heads! Danny
Hi Guys, Guilty as charged - got that photo from the HAMB classifieds - found it when I was searching on Harrell. Lots of mis-information and little information on the actual company and intakes. The limited amount in the books I've read said the triple is a great performing piece whilst the dual was rated poorly and lost favour pretty quick. Dan
Hey Psycho... The Harrell triple is a POS intake so I tell ya what....Ill come around and do ya a favour by taking it off your hands. Whaddaya reckon? Rat
I'd hate to burden you with such a large and heavy piece of crap so why don't we even out the deal and I'll take the 471 that's taking up space on your motor How you been mate? Dan
Here's some info on Harrell. Nick Harrell was the man. http://www.tomstrongman.com/ClassicCars/Berardini Bros/Index.htm http://www.driveonline.com/content/view/112/85/ I have all the original patterns and have casted 6-12 of everything (heads, intakes, 2x2 and 3x2 tops and side covers). We are currently finishing the jigs for machining and all will be available in the near future. Any questions? I'll do my best to answer.
Heads will retail for $795/pair unpolished. I'm thinking of offering a few cc volumes for different applications. Still trying to pull everything together as far as the website, pricing for the other components, polishing and a new intake side plate casting that has an integrel fuel block. In addition, I want to run a set of heads on some friends cars to make sure all is well. Our shop is ISO blah-blah so we have get this casting process into the system. Not a bad thing, just more people and more meetings. Anyways, on & on & on, I don't like typing and don't wanna bore you with details. Keep a look out, I'll post website info asap. Thx for inquiring. Gordy Cushman
Hey Gordy, There is a local guy that runs original goodies on his 40 coupe. I check to see if I have his number , not sure what done to the motor but it sounds Wicked.
So your the guy who ended up with the patterns? I passed on them. (I'm not a manufacturer) Are you into cars, hot rods? Sorry DesJardin couldn't keep it going.Nice guy. Sold a quite a few for him. Those pictures are on my old coupe. That's the first I have heard the name "Nick Harrell" I have old papers stating "Jim harrell" and like a said was in the Albata club. He also used a alias "Jim White" .. I'll try to post a scan.. ....ah won't work,if a downsize it you can't read it. I'll forward it to someone you can post it full size? It would be nice to know more about this man.
Hi Mate, How do you rate the performance of the intake versus a standard (say Offy or Sharp) dual? Danny
Yea, I'm into cars and hot rods. Our shop got slow a few years back and we started making header flanges for old engines. That led into some different remote oil filter adapters, carb adapters, trans adapters, rebuilding 97s and 94s, polishing, wiring, engine tuning, plumbing, metal work, body work, painting. I guess a little of everything but not on any kinda grand scale. It's just two of us and we have access to our tool room and a couple of tool and die makers and machinists, so it's pretty cool. As far as Nick Harrell, that's all I've been able to find out.
Gordy, Good luck man with this project. You have one customer here the minute you get something out of the foundry. Be great if you and Vap could work out a deal as well, he has to be one of the best guys on the HAMB and I've certainly bought from him a bunch as have most Australian hot rodders that I know. Dan
Danny, I'm having some problem posting a reply. I hope this one takes. We have pulled together a lot of info on Jim and Nick Harrell from the 1930s through 1960s, and their racing equipment. Might want to take a look at our web site: http://HarrellEnginesHot Rodding.com Then click on Harrell Racing Equipment tab. Roger
This is my HARRELL Engine (with the wrong intake). Now I've found a correct one and I'll change this next.
