Does anyone have any information on the Blue and White Corvette that was in American Graffiti? It sat at Mel's Drive In at the same parking spot for the entire movie, so could it have been a non-running movie prop? I also noticed that there is no speedometer in the car, which leads me to believe maybe it was just a shell. The car has been modeled incorrectly as a 1961 or 1962 by alot of manufacturers but it is obviously a custom 1958-1960, so there is alot of confusion in regard to the car. I have never heard of the car showing itself in the light of day since movie. Thanks.
Most of the background cars in the movie where local cars. I new some of the guys who had their cars used for filler. The Vette was a local Northern Calif. car. I remember seeing it at Oakland, and a few other shows. I don't know who owned it, or what happened to it. The white 39 Chevy coupe "Hemiroid" in the cruising scene, is from the Hayward Calif. area, and is still owned buy the same guy, or family. It shows up at Pleasanton Goodguys from time to time. Dean
DW: "It sat at Mel's Drive In at the same parking spot for the entire movie, so could it have been a non-running movie prop?" Nah, just evidence that power parking isn't that new of a phenomenon.
Thanks alot for the reply. I really appreciate the information. Maybe it will show up again sometime, although I ***ume it has already been "restored" seeing as what those cars are going for now days. Best. DW
ha ha i grew up with the hemiroid the owner was a close family friend i would like to find out where the car is currently the prev owner(my friend) and myself would like to get it back
Update this is not the 59 Blue & white Corvette from the opening scene of American Graffitti. The car looks a lot like it but after a lot of research and talking with 2 of the early previous owners I found out the car in the movie was a 1958 and was restored with the flares, hood and other cutom things put back to factory including the 1958 hood.
The power of the Hamb usually doesn't take 15 years to come through. Doug, that's really cool. Have you owned the car since that time? How about a little background for us. Welcome to the forum.
Update I am sorry to say that this is not the 59 Blue & white Corvette from the opening scene of American Graffitti. The car looks a lot like it but after a lot of research and talking with 2 of the early previous owners I found out the car in the movie was a 1958 and was restored with the flares, hood and other cutom things put back to factory including the 1958 hood back in the early 80's then sold. Here are some pics of the Movie car during restoration in the 80's for your enjoyment. Maybe this will help some lucky person find out they have the actually own the 58 that was in the movie even tho my car looks more like it now. Enjoy!
The 56-60 Corvettes just look so right with the bumpers gone to accent the true body lines and get rid of the heavy look of the add on jewelry.
