i think i flubbed up when i welded in my rear suspension mounts. do they look off? if so should i cut the bracket out and move it or just cut the four bar and shorten them? help please thanks in advance TM
From the angle shown in the photo the axle does look a little bit to the rear, but since you're runnin' a 32 frame I'm guessin fenders ain't in the plan. If it was mine, I'd live with it as long as the rear was in the car straight. To my eye, it's a nice car and the rearend placement does not detract from it.
Tom It looks good..ok for fenderless.. but if you are determined to put it in the center i would suggest moving the mounts forward, not cutting the bars..JMO show a picture of the rest of the car
in time these are just cell phone pics i need to borrow my sisters camera and i will take pics of the whole car
Face it, If YOU think it looks off, you're never going to think otherwise. I'd put about 300 pounds/two buddies in the "back seat" and then see if the tire is more concentric with the fender line. then if still looking off, adjust 4 bar (and drive shaft?) length the relatively small amount of length, as needed. 4 bars are supposed to be adjustable!
I think I would try to adjust it as far forward as you can with the adjustments and live with it..as said before it looks ok fenderless..tell me you havent made your driveshaft yet
yes, moving the brackets would be best ,but you probably need less than an inch..i'd be tempted to shorten the bars . maybe remove thee bars and roll the rear forward to see how much you need. even a 1/2 inch would help any chance you body isn't permanently mounted? maybe slide that back...but that could through the proportions of the car off
yea the body is mounted and i think it would be more work to do that then to cut the bars or bracket. i think a half an inch or 3/4 might do it also
I hate it when that happens your call Tom.. i know i would get out there and drive it or at least shake it down to see if you have any other issues, than correct it..but thats me..
me too. i look at it and it kind of bothers me but i dont want ot cut the brackets off and do all that work. im thinkin of cutting the bars
than you need a left handed bar shrinker dammit i just sold mine nice lookin Tudor **** it cut em..if you only need 3/4" to make it right and keep you sane..I dont think it will hurt any
i think thats what im going to do. cut them, and the drive shaft and move the panhard bar. i just got sad. and i might have to modify the fire wall because the magneto is to tall extra sad. 2 steps foward 25 steps back. but **** it! it hot rodding right?
I feel your pain friend..ive been at building my A for about a year and 6 months..Ive had the body on and off so many times its killin me.. I have to move my engine mounts forward a half inch and my front 4 bar frame brackets forward a half an inch too..im just glad im still in the mock up phase and nothing has yet been solid welded except my boxing and X member..feels like 2 steps forward 3 steps back..
I did a 30 a c-dan and the thing had if i remember a rod shop ch***is and the wheels were 1 1/2 inches to the rear of center.. It looked like **** but it was also a fender car.. I cut the bars made a spacer for the panhard rod and all was well .. **** thats what I forgot when work let me go.. The bar ends were in my bench drawer ( i took em to work and cut em) and thats good stuff if you need a threaded bushing.. **** em i aint going back there ... Dave
i but in the actuall engine for the first time yesterday and popped my really old tires that i use to roll the car around on. scared the **** out of my nephew when he heard them pop lol.
Ditto DrJ... I think the axle is too far to the rear. It's far too easy to fix it now than later, even if you have to shorten the driveshaft (again). And of course, if "stance" is everything, then you ain't got it yet. Gary
No No just the ends I cut off.. thems handy though... Im sure i left other **** after working there 31 years but oh well.. I have the summer off . Cut your bars and space the panhard rod out and you will have it covered.. Piece of cake. Dave
