Hi everyone, I have been browsing the board a lot and finally setup an account. I am a junior mechanical engineering major at Bradley University in Peoria, IL. Can't wait to finish next spring and buy myself an early 50's Chevy pickup. I already have a small block waiting for it. But in the meantime I am suffering through working on my mom's 1979 corvette. I redid the 350 to gain a little bit more power (darn smog motors), painted the underbody, and ran a new exhaust. I went to the Hunnert Car pileup last fall and had a blast. By far the greatest show I have been to and can't wait to go this year when I can actually enjoy some PBR legally. Ryan http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y176/rambo819/car show/carshowflyer.jpg
welcome. i made it to my third year as an m.e. student then dropped out to join the army. don't do that.
Thank you for NOT being an MBA major!! At last, a student who is going to either design or make something besides paper piles on his desk. MEGA WELCOME!!
Being a ME student ****s, So much ****ing work. The little free time i have I spend here to keep some sanity in my life
1.) You have to get a bachelors degree before you get an MBA (Although there are some exceptions). MBA stands for Masters in Business Administration. 2.) What's wrong with Mechanical Engineers wanting to better themselves & their families by going to grad school for an MBA to get a higher paying job making "paper piles"??? Enough with my little rant. Ryan welcome to the board. A 50's chevy pickup should not be too hard to find. They're a dime a dozen up here, I would ***ume the situation in similar in Illinois. A little words of wisdom here, shell out some extra cash for a nicer project. It will help you get it on the road sooner, which is priceless.
Your "rant" has caused me to resolve to choose every word more carefully. To think about how someone could misinterpet my meaning. Honestly, I cannot think of any other way to express my thoughts. But, this is a healthy discussion if properly approached. Maybe. (still smiling)
I graduated with a BS in ME in 2005. I don't have an MBA and honestly don't plan on it, but all I seem to make is piles of paper anyway.
I know what you mean, it seems like all I do is school work. Who cares about how the law of linear momentum was derived, just let me design and build some hotrod parts. As for an MBA, four years of school is enough for me right now. Yea, there are quite a few around but I know what you mean by taking the time and spending the money to find a nice project. I looked at a chopped 53' pickup last fall and it would have taken twice as much work to get it looking right than if they didn't hack the chop job. One that note though I do want to take the time and build something that is definitely one of a kind but looks traditional at the same time with some little personal touches here and there. Ryan
Welcome Ryan. Good luck with the mechanical engineering degree. I graduated with my BSME in 2000 and now get to design construction equipment (not car stuff, but still kind of fun.) Sounds like you are in Caterpillar country.
BSME in '96 and JD in '99, I'm working as patent attorney for a fortune 500 company. Patent law is a good option to the MBA
