OK, here's the deal - was talking with a gearhead friend today, and he told me this story. Apparently, there is an old salvage yard at US-169 and 223rd street, called 169 Auto Parts. Seems the old guy who owned it (described as a prick) didn't feel the need to pay his taxes. Now the authorities have padlocked the place, and at some point in time, the old cars are due to be auctioned off; those that don't sell will be crushed. I've never been to the place myself, but from what he said there is a LOT of old metal there. Does anyone know any more about this deal than I do, or can find out? If nothing else, would like to know when the auction is - I'll save what I can.
I looked it up on Google Earth and you can see it. They must be on a big kick about that around there now. I heard that the same thing is happening to a truck yard about 10 miles west of this one. It's at I-35 & 231 st street.
This one? 169 Auto Parts and Salvage 22218 Lone Elm Rd Spring Hill, KS 66083 United States Phone: 1 913 592 4056 Dude had a '68 F250 rear for $275 he said he'd sell me... ~Jason
VERY intresting!!! I have a friend that lives down that way... I will see what I can come up with!! -COS
They were proud of what they had, been buying the gotta have parts there for years. I wonder what happened to his dog? he didn't get treated very well.
If you are talking about the truck yard by towards Ottawa, that place was a gold mine for "Stewart Warner Gauges".......sometimes you have to think outside the box for parts and gauges......FYI.
Along the same line, I hear Christie's in Leavenworth got crushed because the heirs wanted cash now. I bought a '26 GMC there years ago, and made a neat little turbo Buick V6 rod out of it. It is still around town somewhere. He had lots of old stuff, back to T's even if you looked hard enough. There was a V16 Caddy that they still have. I remember the remains of a little Rumley Oil Pull tractor way in the back brush that not many wandered into. Bob W
Im also interested in this man there is a junkyard in the DOT that ive gone to many of times and dude was such a @SS that I couldnt buy crap! If i wanted a part he wanted to sell the car as a Whole if i wanted a car he was only selling parts and when i wanted a small rubber hose he wanted like 300 bucks for it lol for a rubber hose lol what a D!CK! I cant stand these guys in there junk yard how they make a living ill never know!!!!!!
Just got of the phone with my buddy he use to work for the owners of this yard... The guy that is LEASING it now is the one in deep shit... The owners are working the paper work out right now to take it back over... So it sounds like there will be no crushing of cars or an auction as of right now. -COS
Maybe an auction wouldn't be such a bad thing, you know? I mean, if they have the publicity, why not cash in on some of it? Might help with some expenses... and it's nit like they're gonna sell it ALL, you know? ~Jason
Yes definatly keep us informed of an further actions. If there is an auction it's close enough for me to get to.
I used to go to 169 Auto with Kelly Cronister (Crazy old Mopar guy) in the 90's. Used to be some cool stuff there. I have not been there in a while. I called for some 60's ford parts this summer, and he said that the didn't have any. Ax
