My friend who originally installed the steering in my '37 coupe in the 80s is trying to upddate it to a more modern setup. He is looking for steering arms to fit the original '37 spindles that he can use as part of a cross steering setup. He's trying to get rid of the ball and socket setup it had from the factory, but says he can't find any steering arms that use a modern tie rod end. Does anyone know of anything available? We have looked through the Speedway motors website, and can't find anything that says it works with '37 car spindles. I think he said he found something for a truck setup, but doesn't know if they are interchangeable. Slonaker
I got mine back in the 80's from Butch's Rod shop in dayton Ohio, owned by Butch Bunn. I know that he sold the business but don't know if they are still around. Maybe someone else on here would know.....
I think the front brake kit on the car came from Butch's. He is still around, but I can't find what I am looking for on his site. I sent him the question via email. Maybe he'll have something, or know who does. http://www.butchscoolstuff.com/ Slonaker
You can get replacement balls if yours are egged. You can also get replacement guts for the rod ends that have Teflon buttons. Just a thought. Try the Filling Station.
I have been looking for the same thing and cant find them anywhere. Speedway makes them for later year chevy's 49-54 but they wont fit earlier years. Why change your steering? Good luck Gary
The steering box was updated to a used manual Chevelle box in the 1980s. When he was alive, my dad put a LOT of miles on the car using it as his daily driver, and the box is worn out. The setup it had resulted in a lot of frame flex, and it always felt too "loose." My buddy wants to set it up differently now, and I want to get rid of the ugly 70s GM tilt column that was the typical setup at the time. Slonaker
