This Texas boy is getting dragged to see the in-laws in western Massachusetts next week. Gotta make the wife happy once in a while. I cant sit in the house and reminisce with the old folks for four straight days or I will go crazy. If I can get out of the house for a couple of hours, are there any rod shops north of Boston that I can go check out? <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o> </o> Anything is better than looking at someone elses family photos for four days
North of Boston sure ain't western Massachusetts! Where are you actually going to be? If you're gonna be in western Mass, and you're a FlyFisher, hit the Housatonic just south of the Mass/Conn line. vic
I don't know much about Mass other than the times i have been to Boston. I will be in Holyoke.......if that helps....
Richie Willet...Rod Builder DELUXE.....Malden Hub Auto Supply....Commonwealth Ave....Boston New England Speed Equipment.....Allston/Brighton PV Speed Shop....Malden Been a few years dsince I was home, but LOTS of activity!! I hope the above are still operating. And Richie is the first one to visit!! A classic old school builder of rods and bikes.
Besides Richie, the rest are gone...I think... You're going to be approx. 2hrs outside of boston, there are some yard treasures if you drive around the back roads some, also some western mass hambers out that way. You should check out gilbertville, ma. A year ago I missed out on a deal on an old trailer in that town that had the entire front end w/brakes from a 39 Lincoln. It was sold an hour before I got there to a local Gilbertville resident for $25- to haul yard waste. Its still in that town somewhere... -Torr
Belmont's Rod & Custom Dedham, MA. He owns the original Jade Idol & mucho more! My company has a store in Holyoke. Keep your doors locked!!
We get to Holyoke on the 16th and leave on the 20th of April. That's a long time to talk about the wife's family and all their ailments. I saw the shops in street rodder magazine and they are all 90 miles or more away, i was hoping for something a little closer that I could disappear for a while and the wife not miss me......you know how it is when you visit "family".....
Might be a week early or so for the shad run up the Connecticut river at the Holyoke dam if you wanted to wet your line
Man there is nothing i would like to do better than wet a line. The wife would be mad enough as it is if I sneek out to a hot rod shop.......If i pack a fly rod, i will be sleeping on the couch for the next month..... I might be able to talk her into driving around the old country and peeking over some fences to see if there are any projects around.....
Frank Ezold's garage Westfield Mass Intersection of route 10 and 202 Restorations to hot rods model a thru 48 A great wealth of knowledge
they got a so-cal speed shop in uxbridge, if they're not busy, they'll give ya a tour of the garage, theres always something cool being worked on in there.
Stop in and see Frank Ezold in Westfield. He gotta real nice yellow roadster, and a huge supply of parts. Very cool guy!
