For $300, and 50,000 miles later without any problems until this last Fall when the AOD went, it has served as tow rig, parts hauler, and around-the-yard-tow-truck. (I have a separate back bumper with a cherry picker bolted on) I'll need to replace it this year
Jason...Ya know, I don't have any pics of it. It's a 5"x5" 1/2" wall square tube with 1/2" plate 5" wide welded on the ends with holes drilled to bolt into the truck frame. Then 2 holes drilled through the center top and bottom, with long grade 8's and washers holding the picker. Then ratchet straps at the top going to the forward most pockets on the bed. Take about 10 minutes to bolt on with an impact. I use it to move engines around the yard, and my F1 without engine and trans once. Cheaper than buying a tractor, lol.
92 dodge reg cab 4x4 with a ***mins and a 5speed, pumped a little with a 4 inch staight pipe, 300k and still going...has the normal dodge rattles... but has no problem with a 15k lb trailer...
My "work" truck is a 2008 Tacoma, Total Chaos long-travel uni-ball front end, Deaver leafspring pack out back, King byp*** shocks all the way around... I toss stuff in the bed, it has been used to haul a trailer or two and it has served as my swapmeet hauler quite a few times already...
Well I've got a '94 Chevy 1500 2wd Standard Cab long box, with a 425 Olds and a TH400 she'll get some small work truck duties when she's done..But for the heavy lifting it's the '03 Dodge 3500 4x4 6spd ***mins powered beast.
Well, I picked up a cheap '91 Suburban to replace the '89. A little fancier - cloth interior with bucket seats, tilt, air, factory PW, power locks that work, looks like it even has antilock brakes by the looks of the master and the computer with it. Body's a lot nicer, and as a bonus the red and silver is a good match for Tony Stewart's Nascar paint scheme. And it's another TBI 350 with a 700R4. I figured if I needed parts I could rob them from the other one - and I'm already used to all the half***ed engineering done by guys who never had to fix their own car. It's going to need the rearend swapped out of the other one, though, it has a 3.73 open in it where the other was a 2.73 locker - the locker is better in mud and snow and the high gear would let me go 80 down the thruway all day long if I wanted.
'55 Chevy half ton, 455 Olds powered, 4L80e ****** and transfer, 4x4 conversion by me, ford 9" rear, ford 1.5 ton front axle. Front fenders and the grill bar are off of '55 Chevy commercial truck tractor, fit perfectly.
47/48 pu....usually hauls a empty trailer to races in case need to tow something home ...drive the A to the track &tow it back >getting old now so tired at nite...
First I had one of these, Landrover 110 6WD Ambulance, flat out it could do almost 90kmh! Then I upgraded to this, UH1D for AeroMedical Evacuation, I miss tac flying! And finaly I worked my way into one of these. One of the hardest things I ever accomplished. Special Operations Landrover JRA Long Range Patroll Vehicle. Doc.
My 46 chevy mounted on a 78 chevy 4X4 ch***is..and my 85 chevy astro van with a 350 crate motor...both are workhorses. I hauled s**** metal with the 46 last winter when the s**** prices were high.. Just traded the 46 off for a 54 Buick.......
My work trucks have always been 3/4 ton Chevrolets, 350 TH400 with one-ton overloads in the back, receiver hitch for whatever..I drive an 86 I bought new for $12K, payments were $272 mth. Boy, we'll never see that again..Its got a 91 engine innit right now and truck is pushing 500K miles..The truck I retired before it was a 77 set up the same and was starting in on its second million miles on its third engine..only reason I retired it was the frame was starting to crack in places..I still have the"Blue Goose" 66 two-ton Chevrolet Bob-tail that was a mobile home mover and I put a tow sling and gen-pole on the back, its an 8-speed with a 292 six..I would like to have an early 50s Studebaker and am looking for one...
