75 ft-lbs is plenty. Totally re-evaluate what's going on there and stop adding torque before you hurt the rims.

Your right, this takes a serious look. Had one very close call already if it wasn't for a fellow rodder that rear fender would be gone and whose knows what else.

I haven't located that chart, but I'm a believer. I know that stretch and seating is critical

I would shorten the collar on the lug nuts and remove that anti-seize. Give it a try. Could you replace just the problem weld wheel? If the lugs are streched and the lug nuts are to long then this could be the problem. Gary

Thanks Gary, I think your right, Advanced has chrome acorns. I'll pick up 20 and give them to my nephew who works at a machine shop to give 'em a nice clean job, That'll give me a chance to take a little brake cleaner to that anti-seize. The wheel that almost fell off and broke two lugs had a persistent rattle in it from the steel plate sandwich between the aluminum. I finally solved that rattle by de burring the inside of that hub with a barrel grinder. However the loosening happens on all the wheels. It seems to be inherent to that design. New wheels are not in the budget yet. I just dumped another 2500 in paint, then I bought a new Holley, some trans mods, and a new set of hoops from Diamond Back. If I don't stop spending I won't have any dough to hit the shows. I'm really looking forward to the NSRA Nats. in Louisville. We're going to Michigan, Indianapolis, Des Moines, and I'm flying to Reno to meet my cousin in Reno for Hot August nights. This coming Tuesday it goes to Gerber for a new windshield. Whoever did this window didn't seal the inside edges at the siliconed split and it's starting to delaminate. So the hotrod budget is shot. Thanks again---Phil

It's not inherent to the wheel design it just means you have the same issues on all four corners.

Remember, when you put the lug in a loose wheel to judge shank length, the rims squish down a little when torqued. You don't want to know how many hard miles I've run with welds and cheesy 3/8" spacers! No loosening problems.

Well today is the day to tackle that. It's 60 miles to get the new windshield on Tuesday. I live in the lakes area of Illinois. Just a few miles from the Wisconsin border. Boonies.

If the center plate is rattling under lug torque, your lugs are too long. That's a tight compression fit. I just noticed this in a re-read

    good luck

You could put left handed studs in so they would tighten instead of loosen.
