I know anything will fit... I was wondering if they are the right width?

What width rearend usually fits the best in these trucks. I need to get a rearend for my 54. Its sitting on an S-10 Ch***is and I think the stock rearend is too narrow??

Anybody have any experience or ideas of what will be my best choice?

    Thanks,
    Polish

i have a 80 camaro rear in my 53 p.u. . the tires rub a little with the 8 in. corvette ralley wheels on it. had to use spacers to keep from rubbing. all depends on what off set wheels you use. i guess i could have run 7s and been o.k. or mini tub it,which i won't do.so to answer your ?, it will work.............sorta:cool:

  6. I have an an early '70s El Camino 10-bolt rearend in my '54 pickup.

  7. You should mock it up with the wheels and tires you think you're going to use, spaced like how you want it with good clearances everywhere, and then measure between the backsides of the wheels with a tape measure. Then go scrounge the junkyards with a tape measure in your toolbox.

I've read that these trucks will accept 58"-62" rear ends (wheel mounting surface to wheel mounting surface). So I found myself a `51 Olds Rocket 88 rear-end to stick in my `49 3100 pick-up, and it measures 61". I am expecting zero width problems. My stock axle is roughly about an inch wider.

And, as mentioned earlier, wheel width and backspacing is a big factor.

    Hope this helps.

Wheel width and backspacing. Until you know those you can't choose the right width. That said, I have a 62 inch wide rear from a '73 Chevelle wagon under mine and have had two different sets of wheels on it with no problems at all.

I have a 75 Camaro in my 55 1st series and 8" wheels with 4 1/2" back spacing with the camaro sway bar on the rear and it works great with 255-70-15 and everything fits. It has been on there for 35K miles and one brake job. Without the rear sway bar there was some rub on the inside tire at the bed side. You will be better off with a 61" as that 1/2" makes a big difference!
