Thanks to everyone for answering my questions. I am in the process of getting my rear diff. set under my frame. At ride height what should the basic distance from the top of the axel tube to the bottom of the frame be. Thanks again Matt

I've heard 4" as a basic rule of thumb. After c-notching my '48 F-1 pickup I've got about 2 3/4"....I added weight and bounced up and down on it and it didn't even get close to bottoming out. If it does I can change the block height. My '50 Ford has about 1 1/2" of clearance and rides pretty rough....bottoms out on potholes etc. Hope that helps :)

Just curious if this distance changes for parallel leafs, or coil overs or buggy type single springs?

I like 4-5 inches so I can get a bump stop in. Leafs might want a little more, but really, any basic shock setup will have no more than 4" of travel, with 1/3 for droop and 2/3 for compression. Do the math and you have less than 3" of compression to provide for. Exceptions would be in trucks to carry payload. You need these numbers with a loaded bed. Depending on payload, add the extra based on weight and spring rate.

It depends on the type of suspension doesnt it?? Or is it a general rule?
