Right now I'm tearing into the interior of my '62 Fairlane (dash stripped of wiring, guages, etc and floors have been s****ped and are waiting to be stripped). I pulled my heater out only to find it pull of mice "leftovers". For the season I'm leaving the heater out until I have time to inspect it and want to install a heater delete plate to cover the hole on the dash. I have a radio delete plate that I'm going to use too. I know that there is a radio and heater delete plate for the 1964 Fairlanes (Thunderbolts), but that's a different shape that I need. Does any know if they did make heater delete plates for a 62-63 Fairlane? I've seen tons of radio delete plates for the 62-63 Fairlane but not the heater delete plates.

    Thanks!

I bet a lot of cars came without a radio in the early 60's. heater delete would be a bit harder to find, even here in sunny California.

you need to search ebay 4 times a week until one comes up. you need to email people who look like they are selling parts and see if they have one.

The bezel just had no cutouts for the heater.

The radio delete is a bolt in piece though.

Wow unclechop, that's completely different than what we have over here! Here's a couple pictures (not of my car but of other 62's) with and without the trim around the radio and heater:

I've never seen a clock installed in the dash like that on a 62-63 Fairlane, usually they're an accessory mounted on top on the dash. Does anyone know if it's possible to install the Australian trim on the American Fairlane? I know of course the wheel is on the right side, but I'm wondering if the trim has the same curvature? I'll have to check my trim to see if it's possible.

    Thanks!

The curvature appears the same, the only problem would be the the thickness at the top of the trim. With the American Fairlane the trim has the same thickness at the top and the bottom. But if you look at the top of the Australian Fairlane, it's thicker at the top (matches the top of the dash cluster) than the bottom.

    Thanks!

We only had fairlane 500's no poverty packs.
My dad had a 64 with the heater controls shown on the green 'lane but was positioned under the radio.

    Hey unclechop,

Could you tell me if your radio/clock bezel has the same thickness at the top and bottom? I was just checking out ebay.au and looking at a radio/clock surround. It looks like it's just as thick at the top and the bottom:

Also, how do you attach it to your dash? My dash trim has three screw holes at the top, and two hidden ones by the dash and heater.

    Thanks!

From memory it had (6?)die cast studs and sheet metal nuts that go through to the back of the dash.
I think it was tapered top to bottom I have a spare 1 or 2 in the shed I will check it out tomorrow.
The one In my picture was 63/63 not sure if 62 was different.

    Hey Unclechop,

Do you know if there was a dash plate that did not have the clock in them, or could you order the car "clock delete" and have a plate put over it?

    Thanks!

If this is the dash in question, you can probably make a heater delete out of a radio delete. That was my pan for a 56 Ford before I found the complete heater delete kit. Just a thought.

I guess great minds think alike! I've been thinking about buying another radio plate and modifying the one I currently have to fit over the heater controls on the dash. I found out that there was heater delete plates made, but they are very scarce.

    Thanks!
