Its a roller! Rolled the old Chevy out of the shop for the first time. We (my brother Gary and I) wanted to get a good look at the truck from some distance to see how its looking. We've been stuck in the shop all winter and today we got the steering hooked up and rolled it outside for a look see. First light. A few more views. We noticed the engine seemed to be leaning back at too great an angle. We originally installed the engine so that the carb was level. It just doesn't look right to me. Looks like the truck is broken in the middle. We lowered the front of the engine after pushing it back inside but I don't yet have an after pic. Next week, we'll push it back out and see how it looks with the front of the engine lowered. I may raise it back up and raise the ****** instead. Not sure. I simply cut and painted a hunk of plywood to simulate a bed on the back. We also dcided the cab should be channled but we won't be doing that right away. Perhaps next winter's project. I'm going to run it as is for now. What do you guys think of it? My first hotrod build. Be gentle.
i like the stance.are those 32's(mud tire's)on the rear? your right the engine doesn't look right. but i still like it.
Thanks guys. The rear tires are all-terrains, much milder tread than mudders. They are 33-12.20x15 Dayton Timberline II. Not sure about fenders. My instinct is to run some. I just think its better, especially for anyone behind me. We were discussing that just today. Gary suggested some widened 32-34 Ford truck rears and I was thinking same time period International. I am going to be looking at rear fenders to see what's available and what they all look like. I hate the thought of my tires lobbing a rock or something into someone's windshield.
Geezzz...RAT ROD Inspectors.... Give the guy a chance! He's obviously interested in stance and proportion, hence the concern on it looking "broken" due to the engine position and his mocking up a plywood section to approximate the bed. Your off to a good start Rande...don't let them bother you. I like it and I KNOW you'll have fun driving it. Build strong...build safe.
Thanks Bill, I just wanted to clarify my direction. I took, and meant, no offense. Spent the day in a junkyard looking for parts. Lots of old cars and trucks but not what I was looking for. Will have to hit the cl***ifieds. Anyone have a suggestion for where I can look for some headlights? Aftermarket manufacturers? Meanwhile, i'll be looking around the net to see what I can find. I found some cool headlights on what looks to me to be a mid-30s Nash. They have a large rounded gl*** lens but one was missing. Also found what appear to be old aftermarket headlights on a school bus. They have a tag on the top with the letters: S-L-C. I took some pics so I could refer to them while searching the net. Thanks guys.
