Great score in the boneyard! I found a 49 Ford truck with a flat-head! The truck is virtually complete and I need/want the steering column and 2 spoke steering wheel.

    Here's what I have done;

1, Removed cinch nut/bolt at the steering box
2, removed the column bracket from the dash.
3, Cant't remove the steering wheel, don't own a puller but figured I was going to take the whole thing.
4, pulled on it like a ****** but it won't budge.

What the heck am I doing wrong here?

conversly speaking, it had an Allstate SELF CANCELLING turn signal unit on it.

In this neck of the woods, an unmolested beauty like this are hard to come by, particularly in a junkyard. Complet original rear-end, front suspension. The ****** seems like it's seized though.

    any sage advice is welcome
    Thanks!

take off the pitman arm, unbolt them 3 bolts to the frame, remove the little floor plate on the cab floor/firewall and it all should come up thru the cab as 1 big piece

you may need a puller to get the pitman arm off

Are you talking 'just the column' and not the steering box, cause the shaft is one piece. That cinch bracket at the bottom just holds the sleeve that holds the upper bearing. Ive had 'fair' luck backing the nut that holds the steering wheel off a tad and then with my knees under the wheel for pressure giving the shaft a sharp rap with a mallet. If you have to use a hammer use a drift or punch so you dont ****** up the threads.

If you continue to pull,VERY hard, you might be able to pull the whole frame up thru that hole in the floor.

Or unbolt it on the frame first, might be less work. [IMG]

Aha! so it is one piece! Thanks guys! I didn't bring a pickle fork or a puller with me or I wouldn've grabbed the entire box too.

As far as buying the whole thing, belive me, I want it! The cab is nearly perfect. Both fenders have some sort of weird strap welded to bolted to them and the box is MIA. The flattie would be a great score though..

    Thanks for the help folks!

  7. Upchuck said it, the panel in the floor has to come out. but you are gonna hafta bring two wrenches in each size, the bolts that hold the box to the frame have nuts on the inside. Also the screws that hold the panel down were rusted in mine, I ground them off.

Couldya grab the front shock mounts for me? [IMG]

Grab the front brakes and front shock mounts. Someone on the HAMB will want them. That flatty probably has some good stuff on it too if you don't want the whole engine. Most likely a 94 carb, generator, starter, fan stuff off the front, dizzy. Open drive rear could be good swap material too. Damned F-1's around here are getting hard to find.

Upchuck got it right on removing the column and box.
