I'm pretty sure I know. I think the buick rally's with the narrower whitewalls compliment the paint style much better. The rears are photo shopped on there, as I'm waiting on some 1/4" wheel spacers. I'll repaint the stock steels and clean up the WWW's though, just to change up the look on occasion.
I haven't been able to find spiders for a 5 on 5 pattern. Not to mention that the lug BOLTS, not nuts present a problem too.
At first I didn't really care for the rally rims, but they do look good. The more I look at the narrow whites and the rallys the more I like it. I think it would look even more killer if the the back end was jacked up a little bit. Not alot but just enough to get the stance you know. Killer flames by the way.
Isn't really a fair comparison because the pictures are a two different angles and the car look duller and dirtier in the second. I prefer the wide whites, but you have to get some kind of chrome center cap in there to balance it out.
The wide whites look good but that car screams for more chrome on the wheels. Personally I like the Rivera/ Wildcat wheels. I wanted a set of those for my 55 Special in 1966 but the wrecking yards that had them then thought they were gold. One of the better looking factory wheels ever made.
Very nice ride. I do not really like either set of wheels. As stated before, chrome rims would help a lot. If no budget go with the wide whites/steel rims with full hub caps. Paint rims a different contrasting color as an accent..
The no budget is right....I would have liked to put a set of supremes on it, but I have $200 in the rally's with the tires, just the astro supremes alone would have been more than double that, plus tires. Chrome reverse with baby moons were another option, but chrome wheels have skyrocketed in price lately, so I chose to spend the money on disc brakes and jamco springs instead. Maybe next year.......I'll buy another set of chrome wheels, and some fiesta or 4 bar caps to go on the steelies.
I didn't spend 2 months blocksanding to leave it dirty. I'm not obsessive about cleaning or anything, it's a driver, but I'm not going to just let it stay dirty as a fashion statement.
You dont need spider to have them look like spiders. Buy the type with the center bullet separate from the bullet lugs. Ebay is a good place to find them too.
I'm actually kind of surprised that more people are leaning towards the solids and WWW's. To me the paint has a 60's vibe to it, and WWW's just don't look quite right. I'm definately keeping both sets of wheels, but the rally's will probably be on it most of the time. Thanks for all the opinions
Moon eyes released 5x5 spider caps last fall. Not sure if the center will be big enough to clear your hubs. I found out the hard way with a set of supremes that wont work on my 56. There is a guy on epage cl***ifieds that sells a stud kit for Buick. I just installed them on my car.
Yep, the hub diameter is too large for the supremes. I added a scarebird disc kit, so they'd fit the front with no problem. I found some longer lug bolts for the rear and ordered 1/4" spacers to clear the axle stubs.
We all know about no budget. But, watch craigslist for free or cheap stuff. I have gotten free car parts that I had no use for, but sold/traded for stuff I needed. Keep an eye out for yard sales that list car parts. Also, at swap meets in late part of day you can find super deals from guys that do not want to take parts home. As for the paint having a sixties vibe, I do not see it. Look at stuff done by Larry Watson and others in 50's. Sell the rally rims tires. Yes, it is your car-do what you like.
From one Buick guy to another, I'd go black walls with moon discs.....Plus a brushed look like the bumper on the Tail lights. Seriously, bro, one of the sickest lookin' paint jobs I've seen.
That paint job was about 10 hours of masking for 1 hour of spraying....Lets not even get into the prep work before, and the striping/outlining after......... I'm still not quite finished with the striping and buffing the roof, but I'm about burned out over bodywork. After that much work, I can't tell you how much I appreciate the compliments.
I really like the green steel rims and wide whites. Agree that something shiny in the middle to finish them, like baby moons, would help. The other set would look great on my '90 Estate Wagon...
