First off I want to say thanks for all the kind words. Its an honor for me to be able to share with you guys what I am doing.

Its hard having multiple projects and being the only one here. Most of my projects have to wait their turn. I haven't done any more on the willys since the last post. I've been trying to push hard on my 33' vicky conversion ( http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=322727&showall=1 ). Hopefully with the money I get out of it that will put me in a better situation to get back on my other projects.

I just enjoy being able to work on these old rods. I feel better charging less than other shops, so that those people who want things done, and done right can afford to do so. $50 an hour is plenty for me to live on where I'm single and don't have any employees.

Ron Covel has some videos on working with aluminum that are great sources of information.

I think it would be fun to do some sort of apprenticeship program. Something like you bring a project that you want done and I would help you through the process. Defiantly something I would love to do.

How about some specs on the aluminum used? Thickness, where you can get it from, etc. Thanks.

    The aluminum used is 3003 h14 .063 (about 16 g.) And the floor will be 3003 h14 .080 (about 14 g.)

The local metal supplies don't usually carry this kind of aluminum. They usually carry the generic 5000 series aluminum which is way to hard to shape.

There is a place here that only carries aluminum in all the different alloys. I get the sheets there for about $120 a 4' x 10' sheet.

  10. I was at the Decatur Texas swap meet this weekend wondering where the next generation of hot rodders was going to come from. Seems all you see are geezers. Gentlemen, we have just met one of the future leaders in this hobby. Thanks, Mike

I don't post much on boards but I couldn't let this one go by, Kid you are nothing short of awesome!!! Your work looks to have years of experience behind it and your passion for the old rods is truly impressive. Follow you're passion and keep up the good work!!!!

Here are a few shots of a P-38 cowling that I recently completed. If you’re ever in the Colorado Springs area stop by and say hi.[IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][/FONT]

I can't believe anyone would even think of discouraging this kid. Even if you just take it as a lesson in fabrication, it's a valuable post.

Last Saturday was a hard day for me. The willys was picked up and is on its way to New York to its new owner. Kind of weird not seeing it in the shop when I walk in. I am excited thought that it will be finished soon. Plus it will be fun to have something of mine in the east coast.

All I can say is wow. That is some amazing work that you have done. I wish I could get one of my 1/25th scale Willys to look that good. Thanks for having us along for the ride.

Excuse me, but some folks jealousy is showing, shame on your narrow minded views, sad, but our builder sees thru the bullshit and knows who he is and what talent he has!! Your logo rocks man--Best wishes in the business. ~Sololobo~

  25. This is without a doubt one of the most amazing things I've seen in a long time and when I saw the pic with the trophy showing how young you are my jaw dropped. I expected to see some geezer my age or older who has been doing this kind of thing since Henry Ford was a boy. Pay no attention to the one moron who had to piss in your cheerios. He just wishes he had your talent. With a huge percentage of kids your age either not caring at all about getting into the automotive trades or thinking a "hot rod" is a lowered Honda with an Accura engine & trashcan muffler, guys like you are as rare as that Tucker you're planning to build. I have often wondered if our hobby would die out some day as those of us who grew up with it get old & die off and good donor cars dry up completely even if there were any of us left who cared to build stuff. You give us hope that the tradition will continue. If that kind of crafstmanship ain't "traditional" I don't know what is.

Thanks guys for all your kind words. :) I just consider myself lucky to do something I truly love, and as a plus get to do it for a living. All of my friends are either in dead end jobs, or still have no clue what they want to do.

Unfortunately the tucker thing fell through and I think they found someone else closer to do it.

Even though the willys is gone It wont be my last car built from scratch. After I finish up my 32' sedan I want to start up another project. I'm thinking of doing another 30's car, but possibly in copper. Tricky thing is finding a car that when its done its worth more than a steel one. Cause I would have over $50,000 in labor so it would have to be worth at least that much when its done to make it worth doing. The willys worked out that way, but i'm not sure what other cars would fall in that category. Maybe I would just do another willys... who knows.

I have been leaning towards a roadster for that fact. Not having to make a roof, or top of the doors would save a ton of work.

A 36 roadster might work cause its the only one not reproduced. model a, 32', 34' are. What do you guys think a copper full fendered 36' roadster would be worth?
