ditch ebay and list your hot rod on the national OLD CAR TRADER. start the bidding at 17,500 and I be t you will get at least 14. The trick is the ad will roll over until it sells month after month. (if you pay for that package anyway) It runs the same price as an ebay auction. Being national and monthly you will get alot of interest. You can send your pics, relist and pay online too TP aka zibo GOOD LUCK

Sam i dont think that because your car was in a mag its worth anymore .. thats a real gold chainer a***ude.. Ok it goes fast and it allegedley handles well but there are certain aspects of it thats dont fit with the overall theme. Its your car though and you are obviously well proud of it. Arguing with fellas about weather or not they have built cars in the past is futile .. Most of the potential buyers off ebay are in the same boat as them.. Buyers not Builders .. For a lot of folk into rods your car would be easy and quick to built. You sank another $3000 into it from personal preference. Youve kinda started this debate so you have to take the flack. Not every one wants a popular car . not everyone has $13000 for a toy, in your eyes its a real beauty, BUT look from the outside, if it was brought to you having known nothing of its build, with a look over it would you part with $13000.. Hot rodding is still predominatley an enthusiast hobby. There are high dollar cars, unfortunately those are the ones that are featured most often in the high profile mags, giving the impression that high buck is the norm.. Well there are probably 50 times more low buck cars to each high dollar ride .. excuse me for saying this but you have immersed yourself in the HAMB and its culture which has perpetuated the low dollar rat ride mentality . You dont see much truths being banded on here .. but you do see plenty *** kissin.. why dont folk just tell the truth .. there are tons of **** cars posted on these boards and on Ebay .. the coupe in your pic is a nice concept but its still a piece of rusty **** and no where near worth $13000.. A fool and there money are easy parted .. Our hobby is a money pit .. dont expect to reap what you sow..

yeah, Sam's car was in the Ego Rama because it's a "rusty piece of ****".....whatever dude. The roach is a fine tuned machine in disguise. I have yet to ride in another street driven hotrod that throws me back in the seat as much as Sam's rusty piece of ****. You're also right about it being worth nowhere near $13k......I'd say the ingeniuty+sweat equity+ reliability+ character= way more than what $13k could buy.

Sam,

Please listen to everyone who has suggested writing a short description for the auction page. Have the more detailed version ready to go so you can email it to interested buyers at their request. Your initial version is like the car salesman attacking you when you walk onto the showroom floor. A much more subtle approach will make buyers more comfortable.

Think of the auction page as an adverti*****t. Your intentions may be good, but your long copy makes for a dreadful ad. The auction page is a billboard.

Take all of the "it's not worth more just because it has been in a magazine" detractors with a grain of salt. Cars ARE worth more if they have been covered in the press. It's not "gold chainer" and it is not a sell out or other such nonsense. Anyone who says differently is voicing sour g****s.

redoxide,I admire your sincerity and agree with you on some points but disagree with you on others.
All Hobbies are money pits, yes. Anytime we invest money or time into these cars we will 90% of the time loose money. The only way to make money is the quick turnaround of vehicles. I deal in antiques and the trick is to keep these items turned around as fast as possible. Same goes for cars. But that's not we do this is it? We are a sick bunch of idiots who think we can improve on something that the manufacturers have already perfected [IMG]
I disagree with the fact that its a rusty hulk not worth that cost. If I had the money to throw around I would have been in that auction. Thats a cool rod.
Yes we are going to loose money on our investment.
I would try the ebay thing again. My son sold a 4000.00
S-10 blazer for 7500.00 the second time around.

Petejoe To clarify a slight misnomer, it wasnt actually the roach i was refering to whith the phrase "rusty piece of ****" that was more a generic term i used to describe the pic of the T coupe that sam posted..cant say it wasnt rusty!! bit strong calling it **** right enough. but i watched that particular auction many months ago and saw how that car was escalating in value .. Thing was it was sold right at the peak of the RAT ROD phase.. There is some **** out there though.
Farmer, hot rods are built to go fast so its not a unique concept. The blood, sweat, tears, and empty wallet and often starvation are things we ALL go through to build a rod. that again is not a unique concept. Most of us are in the same boat.
Over here we got to jump through hoops just to get a car registered .. add to that the fact that most of the parts are more than 5000 miles away not on our doorsteps in Hot Rod Central.Ive got a steel A sedan which is a rusty piece of ****.and that how its gonna be stayin cause its the style i like most of all. Its got a built SBC or as an alternative set up, a stump pullin Olds Rocket..Its Fast, it stops it steers and it goes around corners... all BASIC principles of hot rodding you would expect from a home build car. and its still got less than $4000 in it .. its still A rusty piece of ****.. its a bit of FUN. lets not loose the thread of this hobby.. If you want to make money deal the stock market or become a currency trader.. after a few months you can buy all the good handling hot rods you ever wanted ..If you love the car so much and its so good and youve been fortunate enough to experiance the ride BUY it thats what banks are there for .. They lend money.. if its so good you cant loose.
No disrespect to sam intended in any of my posts Ive often had this "value of hot rods" discussion unfortunately its his car thats the issue at this time, but it could be anyones.. mines included..the wrong place to mention it is within a community of car builders who have lost there shirts in the past..
Dont take it to heart .. like eveything in this great hobby its only one persons opinion.

I think that Roach Rod is a Bargain at that price.

It is a really important car.

both of these statements are very true.

i've driven that thing and it's a REAL kick in the pants- no chattering, no vibrations- just a real positive feel.......and it'll do burnouts on command up into third(at least by my experience over on holmes blvd.......)
and not a "postal code" car by any means.

it IS a very important car to many of us that saw it go together in person and here on the hamb. since it's inception, the roach rod was made to prove that YOU can build a high quality DRIVER of a hot rod with loads of style by doing a little scrounging, employing yer friends, challenging your-own-self and not needing a pile full of money.

Sam hit the nail on the head with that car and any of us would be privileged to own or build something like it- and some of you have, i'm sure.

still like my third favorite hot rod of all time.

notice no use of the word "rat" anywhere in this post...............a-holes.......=)

Sounds like you need to go for a ride in my car if you think it is universal. [IMG] I gave Mart Holden a ride the other day... he can tell you what it's like. You might even think it is universal in the way it looks... but if that's the case, you need to spend a few hours reading some of your history books on American hot rodding... then spend a few hours with the car and listen to the stories it tells...

Plain and simple... I took the last candidate for a traditional hot rod and I was able to make it reflect a certain era of hot rod racing history... summed up by and old guy who saw the car when I was driving it around in Modesto a few years ago... "I used to race roadster in the CRA... and this is EXACTLY how we used to build them... but they weren't built as well"

Anyway, the car is tentatively sold to a member of the HAMB. I'm happy with the outcome, and when, or even IF he wants it to be known, I'll tell ya all who he is.

Kind of exciting, kinda sad.

11. another thing that kinda bites when selling on Ebay is the reserve....when I got the 10k in bids on my 31 A pickup against a higher RESERVE...[even tho I stopped auction] the charged me for the bids I recieved. I shoud have cancelled all BIDS first THEN canceled the auction .
